Re: Bicycle Infrastructure
Como avenue in Minneapolis has this for about a mile on the north side of the street, and it has held up a lot better than the asphalt bike lane in terms of ride quality.

Re: Minneapolis City Politics General Discussion
The meeting was also originally scheduled in an attempt to avoid the holiday. It all feels messier and much less politically salacious than some are trying to claim.

Re: Minneapolis Street Design
3rd snowiest winter in recorded history is also not going to happen very often. In my opinion, it makes perfect sense to have emergency plowing/parking plans for such a winter rather than design the street for a rare occurrence. That said, I also think the new public works modifications are a fair c...

This is on the March 6th planning agenda. CPED is recommending denial of all their variances.

Re: Green Line Extension - Southwest LRT
I could see Bassett Creek having a good deal more ridership than 21st or Bryn Mawr simply because it's in walking distance of Dunwoody and the Sculpture Garden/Walker.

Re: Metropolitan Council
Is this a Kenwood signalling bill or is he actually going to try and get these passed? Giving this power to MnDOT just seems like a clearly bad idea considering that the state DOT is subject to political whims that extend beyond the metro area.

Re: Transit Crime
There just has to be zero tolerance for hard drugs on transit specifically. This is a problem with pretty manageable bounds. Simply remove the ones actively using drugs from the vehicles. Keep doing it until people get the message.

Re: Transit Crime
Smoking (of any kind) on transit puts the health of transit-dependent users in danger. It's gotten to the point where this might need to be considered a more severe offense and people participating should be locked up. If you're going to do it, do it away from other people.

I would also love to see a comprehensive package specifically addressing public worker shortages (mostly transit focused, but policing too, etc).

Re: Downtown Minneapolis Retail News
Doing this is not a great business move, so it seems obvious that they were dealing with pretty severe theft for them to make this decision. Not crimes of necessity but more theft ring type behavior.

Re: Green Line Extension - Southwest LRT
Every date there other than the Kenilworth trail just seems nonsensical. If the tunnel is what's going to take the longest time, then what exactly is going to be the hold up with opening the other trails?

Re: Public Transit News / Current Events (MN only)
Logically, scientifically there's definitely an argument for no mandate, but this decision does feel pretty absurd given that we are still taking off our shoes at airports over 20 years later for even less defensible reasons. That kind of theater is no longer really culture war coded though, so we'r...

Officials at the Metropolitan Council, the regional planning agency, say they are studying the new data, but they believe their own population estimates to be released in July will be higher. "We think our population estimates will look different based on development trends," said Met Cou...

Given how busy this stretch of bike lanes is during the school year, I think changing that aspect should be a must for the project.

The Met Council has managed 2 light rail projects to completion and MnDot 0, what am I missing here (re: Dibble's response)? Perhaps MnDot would still do a better job, but the fact is they have no experience with light rail transit.

Re: Green Line Extension - Southwest LRT
Bid for legislators to have a tiny bit more oversight over the project? I also don't get it, seems like just asking for more bureaucratic/political nonsense. That's also a good point about Hennepin County. How is this going to protect Hennepin's very substantial contribution to the pot?
