Re: Bicycle Infrastructure

The Southern Connection project is finally underway. This project was funded for 2012 but got bumped to 2013 for some reason. I biked it last night and they had all of the non-artery intersection improvements underway. I believe they are all mini-roundabouts. The biking experience was already improv...

Re: F.W. Cappelen Memorial Bridge (Franklin Ave) Rehabilitat

I think that looks great. Easy cost saving measure would be to leave the old piers. Kind of cute, but I have no idea about the environmental and navigation impacts they have. Anyone have insights on if/when this would happen? It would have a big impact on my bike ride and car ride to work as I norma...

Re: Pleasant St and Pillsbury Dr Roundabout

The Minnehaha roundabout is one the worst places for bikes in the city. Mainly because bikes are obviously the slower vehicle and are supposed to stay on the right in general, but that's the wrong place for them if they are going to the 2nd or 3rd right turn (I hope that made sense). And I hope tha...

Re: Bicycle Infrastructure

I use a section of Minneahaha everyday. I do love it, but the section I am on (and many other sections) have quite dangerous intersections. If I was playing the role of an inexperienced cyclists, I can think of about 4/5 intersections that are quite dangerous. For that reason, I prefer West Mississi...

Re: U of M Bike Trail

Any idea when the U of M Bikeway will officially open? I may or may not have taken a pre-opening tour the other day and it looked pretty much good to go. I don't honestly see this trail getting that much use. It's super slick, and I will use it as I work in the Alumni Center and have to go to the We...

Re: Cedar Ave / Minnehaha Pkwy

The M'haha Parkway Bike/Walking path intersection there can also be very hairy due to the same "car sewer" treatment. I bike it frequently on my way to and from work in the summer. People are aware for the most part, but the path can get blocked by cars who don't understand the concept of ...

Re: Chicago Avenue - Powderhorn (Lake St to 42nd St)

38th/Chicago also has the Fire Arts center ( http://www.cafac.org/ ), which is a cool and unique amenity. It is seemingly one of the more "artist friendly" intersections in South, due to the proximity to reasonable cheap housing and cheap retail spaces. I had not heard of the Arts on Chica...

Re: Cedar Ave / Minnehaha Pkwy

Are you implying Carbone's may be moving across the street to that new building? That would be nice. They could potentially get a patio, of which South is lacking many good options. and update the... "classic" interior design of the current building.
