Re: Blue Line (Hiawatha)
I am looking forward to seeing photos of the new LRVs. Interesting that you said there was a green square next to "Green Line". The current LRVs aren't capable of displaying that, which suggests to me that the Bombardiers may be retrofitted with new destination signs that can display color.

Re: Vikings Stadium
But did the renderings show a completely new station platform, or simply the current station with a roof over it. Everything that has been released has been conceptual. I think we need to wait until the final design is released before we can say with certainty that the arches will be removed.

I don't know much about dirigibles, but I don't think they can go anywhere near 150 mph, nor transport 200 people.

Re: Vikings Stadium
those arches aren't going anywhere. Yes they are. There has been much discussion on this board about a new light rail station being built, but unless I am mistaken, that hasn't been announced. I beleive they do plan to have an expanded plaza, but I don't think any designs have been released. They m...

Ok, so they are remodeling the pharmacy and restrooms? Do you have a source for the supposed new Target tower beginning in 6 or 7 years?

Re: Saints Lowertown Ballpark
Well, it got the bonding award, so is this officially a go? As with most stadium projects, I have mixed feelings, but this will be an amenity to Downtown St. Paul. It is also a pretty small amount of public money compared to our other recent stadium projects.

Re: How do you primarily get around?
Walking is my primary mode. I live in Loring Park, and it is a 15 minute walk to work, 15 minutes downtown. Other places are usually pretty easy on the bus. I have a subscription to HourCar, but I am leaning towards canceling it, I use it very infrequently. There certainly are times when a car would...

Re: Park and Portland
I think the plan is pretty good, much of the corridor will be narrowed to 2 lanes, except in the vicinity of downtown as well as Lake St. The speed limit is proposed to be lowered to 30 mph and more importantly, the lights retimed. But for reasons that are not clear to me, the bike lane will still b...

Re: Xcel Energy HQ - (401 Nicollet Mall)
I hope I'm reading this wrong, but it looks like they're applying for a variance to not have any first floor retail. That's a bummer. I don't think you are reading it wrong, there is nothing at all that looks like retail in the floor plans that were just posted. On the other hand, there is retail i...

Re: Soo Line Building Apartments - (501 Marquette Avenue)
I don't think it deserves its own thread, but might be interesting to know that One Financial Plaza (the new home of Canadian Pacific after moving out of the Soo Line building) is now Canadian Pacific Plaza. Why, that's downright un-American! ;) I had thought that they were going to call it CP Plaz...

Re: Hiawatha Line (Blue Line)
Saw a man driving down tracks between Gov't stop and Nicollet. Several pedestrians were waving and yelling that he was on tracks. I wonder how often this occurs, and how much (as street/track are in common for miles) on the Central? I have seen it happen as well. Back when Warehouse District/Hennep...

I know that. Mulad's quote made it sound as if they were building a light rail platform in back as well, for future use.

Re: Saint Paul Union Depot
I got to go on a tour after the meeting. Yeah, that LRT platform is there, even with the yellow tactile edge. It makes no sense to me, either. It might be the terminus of a Gateway Corridor line, though that makes for a fairly awkward transfer. Oh well, not any different than the buses that will co...

Re: Central Corridor LRT
I was wondering, will they be able to install all the catenary without blocking traffic along Washington? They will be able to stage construction equipment on the tracks, but if they need to close lanes as well they will want to think twice about when they end the bus detours. There is only one lane...

Re: 35W Bus Rapid Transit Corridor
Yes, I think moving the interchange from 35th/36th to 38th has been removed from the scope of what they are hoping to begin construction on relatively soon, although I would assume it is still planned at some point. I believe the full interchange at Lake St. is still part of this project, as well as...

I seem to recall reading the same announcement, but i don't remember where. Washington will only reopen between Huron and Oak, not the whole length. The bus detours will remain in effect.

Re: Interstate 694
I think that design is a few years old. In light of the redesign of the I-494 and US 169 interchange, MnDot may be willing to rethink this interchange as well. As I recall, MnDot had to convince the Feds that it would be ok to leave out the 2 ramps where US 212 provided an easy alternate route. This...

Re: Mall of America
I will say that a friend of mine who I would describe as pretty intelligent (or perhaps intellectual is a better word) damaged a U-haul at the parking ramp at Ikea doing something similar. So yes, it does happen. I myself am withholding judgement against the man who has unfortunately passed away bec...

Re: Arterial Transit Corridor Study ("rapid bus")
I voted for Rapid as well. None of the options is really unique, except for Move and maybe Connect, but I am fine with that. Rapid seems to describe it best. I don't know whether it would be Metro Rapid (too close to the new Metro branding?), or RapidBus or just plain Rapid. My second choice was Swi...
