Re: Twin Cities' National and Global Image
Charlotte demolished nearly every house and most businesses in their center city, so compared to them, MSP is a dream.

Re: Green Line (Central Corridor LRT)
Actually I think it can be helpful if channeled the right way. I'm sure Metro Transit would like to fix it, and I'm sure we have the technical capabilities, but do we have the political will? Do we have the political capital to ensure that a $1 billion train is not encumbered by signal timing that ...

Re: Green Line (Central Corridor LRT)
I just don't understand the point of us constantly harping on the signals issue right now; it isn't as though MT doesn't know about it, and is trying to fix it. When they've had some time to get it right, then we can make more reasonable judgments.

I don't see how you'd get rid of it short of replacing the whole hotel. Is there any chance of ever getting rid of that parking lot in front if the Commons Hotel?

Pass this nearly every day. It's easily the nicest of the buildings going up in the U area at the moment.

From the right angles, that's a fairly handsome building.

Why did they even bother to patch it up when they're going to tear it down so soon?

Re: Bicycle Infrastructure
I think that's just it--the Greenway works better as a freeway than as an arterial. Just because it's there doesn't mean Lake shouldn't be bikeable.

Re: Bicycle Infrastructure
At a red light, passing all the cars that are stopped so then they have to try and pass the slow biker once the light turns green) Honestly, I feel much safer on a bike getting to the front of the line. If it means they have to pass me again, fine; at least they see me this way. I can't tell you ho...

Re: Encore - (935 Second Street South)
I just don't understand how some folks expect new construction downtown to include affordable housing. It seems like such an inefficient and expensive way to build out affordable housing, an idea rooted more in abstract concepts of equity and not as much in the real economic choices that would most...

Re: Orange Line (35W BRT) & Lake St Transit Access Project
And not at Franklin or 36th? The original plans have 38th Street as 'future on-line station', which seems to make more sense than 36th (crosstown bus, equal spacing between Lake and 46th). I have never seen Franklin in any plans. I suspect engineering an on-line station at Franklin on 35W would be ...

Re: Green Line (Central Corridor LRT)
I've actually been offended by the behavior of a lot more white people on both trains so far. That isn't a racial issue; it's a non-confrontational thing.

Re: Green Line (Central Corridor LRT)
How is this a race issue? Vulgarity of any sort, coming from any transit user, is a problem for transit service in our metro. It's not good for ridership if parents are uneasy about bringing their children onto transit because people (of all races and backgrounds) are vulgar and nothing is done abo...

Re: Green Line (Central Corridor LRT)
So far we've established that this train was expensive, that unless public agencies can get everything working perfectly on the first day they're incompetent, and I've gotten my yearly quota of N-word exposure on this ride. that black people are scary? Can we go back to being a progressive and reali...

Re: Green Line (Central Corridor LRT)
Also, nobody is willing to talk about light rail in extremely expensive places - the 5 and the 21, though obvious places where buses are near capacity and where more transit capacity would dramatically improve regional connections, are being ignored because both would likely require extensive tunne...

Re: Green Line (Central Corridor LRT)
The time differences are pretty small anyway. Does it matter all that much? There are very few systems like this where you can count on the train being faster (as opposed to more convenient, more sustainable, etc.) than driving. Even the subway in NYC isn't necessarily faster than a car--maybe in Ma...

Re: Green Line (Central Corridor LRT)
I don't think right now is a reasonable time to be judging average trip lengths. The number of people on the line is absolutely exceptional (the trains today seemed even more crowded than yesterday, and yesterday's 45,000 riders is even higher than the ridership projections for 2030, when they'll ha...
