Re: Twin Cities' National and Global Image
Always found it interesting that Prince, who’d traveled the world over, and had the choice of any city on earth to make his home, chose Chanhassen.

Re: U.S. Bank Stadium
All kidding aside. Based on who is due to host and who has hosted in the past, a good guess is that USBS will get a Super Bowl about once every 14 years. Final Fours probably every 9 or 10 years.

Re: U.S. Bank Stadium
30 seconds of airtime during the Super Bowl goes for $5 million. Our city easily got tens of millions worth of fantastic publicity. Virtually every moment was absolutely positive. The city, the people, the landscape, the food, the recreation, even the frigid weather - all portrayed in the very best ...

Re: U.S. Bank Stadium
For weeks the national media raves about friendly Minnesotans who embrace winter and shower visitors with hospitality. Then thousands of wealthy folks and celebrities invade our city, during one of the year’s most frigid weeks, and spend mad amounts of money at local business. And yesterday 100 mill...

It’ll be hemmed in by a funeral home, a post office, and a noxious gas station. A unit will likely go for more than a million. But it’ll sell in a heartbeat because Excelsior.

Re: U.S. Bank Stadium Construction Updates
Yep. And the soccer halftime bathroom rush is MUCH more extreme. Football affords fans dozens of urinal opportunities throughout the course of a game.To some extent, but the halftime rush for concessions is much more extreme at a soccer game.

Re: U.S. Bank Stadium Construction Updates
Halftime was the one chance to hit concessions and restrooms without missing anything (unlike an NFL game, which has multiple breaks in action). At the half it seemed like 64,000 people decided to relieve themselves and/or get a snack all at once. So the lines got a bit long. But other than that min...

That’s not far from my home. Folks around here are big fans of the new bike lane. Bushaway has been a vital artery for 100 years but has never been safe for bikes because the causeway was too narrow.

Yes, but how receptive would all those Bearpath McMansion owners be to a commuter railroad rumbling through their backyard?Bonus is the existing right of way that covers nearly all of the extension.

Re: U.S. Bank Stadium Construction Updates
I think we know that the Vikings didn’t want to pay for it. But is there any evidence that the Vikings ever thought the bridge was necessary? Does anyone remember seeing a bridge in any of the Vikings concepts, renderings, videos and models of the stadium and it’s surroundings? It seems like their a...

Have the Vikings ever expressed any desire for that bridge? I thought it was all the Met Council’s idea.

Re: U.S. Bank Stadium Construction Updates
I wish Mr. Frey the best of luck with his barter. Will be interesting to see what the Viking will give up for that name change, if it really is such an issue. Wasn’t the Wilf’s oversized park request made when it still seemed likely that 20 MLS games would be played at U.S. Bank Stadium? Have we he...

A third of the days is 122. They own the park for 122 days? Where did you get that number? But they effectively own the park for at least a third of the days in a year.

a street re-name for a couple blocks. big whoop. If it were really just a couple blocks it’d be fine. Twins Way is a couple blocks. So we can happily allow that. But doesn’t Zygi want Vikings Way to be three blocks? That’s 50% more than a couple. Ridiculous! This will destroy our way of life and pl...

Outreach = Minnetonka schools sending hundreds of kids to tutor in inner city schools every year. Giving much needed assistance to overwhelmed Minneapolis schools.

That’s surprising, given the district’s eagerness to open their doors to everyone, and their history of outreach to inner city schools. I’d be curious to know why they weren’t chosen to participate.Minnetonka does NOT participate in the Choice Is Yours program

Re: Vikings Stadium Legislation/Financing Package
The “host committee” is just rich people (the 1%). And the $30 million they raise privately will be largely spent paying time-and-a-half to local working folks, and purchasing supplies from local businesses, right? Likewise, don’t the hundreds of millions that wealthy visitors spend on hotels, bars,...
