Re: Midtown Greenway Trail [not the transit thread]
Although it was a pretty crappy job, it's an improvement imo. The big cracks haven't just been filled, but paved over, which if you're running tires over 100psi is really nice. There are spots where the new surface is slightly uneven and parts of the trail are rougher than others. Also, some idiot r...

Re: Twin Cities' National and Global Image
Our image isn't going to recover for awhile I don't remember if this was posted on here. The tourism agency seems worried as well. https://www.minneapolis.org/safety-updates/future-of-public-safety/ It looks like Meet Minneapolis thinks the idea that Minneapolis is abolishing its police department ...

Re: Twin Cities' National and Global Image
It seems to me that auto parts stores were also targeted along with gas stations. Is there some violent group that would target auto related industries? On the other hand, as far as I know, used car lots were not targeted and neither Minneapolis or St Paul has a new auto dealership to destroy. I don...

Re: Iconic Local News Commenters
I need to add that I really enjoy Monte Castleman's comments on this forum's sister site. I don't always agree with him, but one really needs to think about what he says. Plus his series on things like streetlights and the history of highways are awesome.

Re: Iconic Local News Commenters
Ray Schoch has commented quite a bit on MinnPost, thoughtful albeit wordy comments. He has, though, said on multiple occasions that it takes him 3 buses and two transfers to get from his home (N. Mpls? Robbinsdale?) to downtown. I've challenged him on that assertion, but he's never responded. (edite...

Re: State law: Drivers must stop for crossing pedestrians at marked crosswalks and at all intersections without crosswal
There needs to be a massive re-education of drivers and pedestrians in this state. A number of years ago in my hometown of Cambridge, there was an effort to get motorists to stop for pedestrians on Main Street. While I did not sit and observe, I do remember driving through town and being very surpri...

Re: Amtrak Empire Builder and Intercity Rail to Chicago
MnDot has completed a study for adding a second train. No funding of course.

Re: D Line - Fremont/Emerson/Chicago Rapid Bus
Currently, I think the slowdown is because of the closure of Portland at the Greenway, and also at 94. Portland traffic is detoured over to Chicago on 28th St and that has had an impact on the Chicago/Lake intersection and the Chicago/Transit Center intersection. That being said, Chicago is generall...

Ha! A location scout wanted to take pictures of our house for possible use in the movie. When my wife read on the handout he gave us that the movie was about a lovable slob, she was not amused.

Re: 1501 Como Ave Apartments
Como Imports? In the late 80's I brought an old Saab in to them. They didn't fix it. Not sure if that's a reflection on them or the quality of Swedish auto manufacturing of the 70's. In any case, I'm never sad to see a parcel of land in Minneapolis that was devoted to auto sales or upkeep be repurpo...

Re: Amtrak Empire Builder and Intercity Rail to Chicago
As for the $$$ amounts above, these $$$ are just to STUDY another arrival/departure correct? Maybe I'm confused (easily done) but these $$$ to study running another train of similar make/model on existing tracks between two existing end points seems like the definition of ridiculous. I await correc...

Re: Amtrak Empire Builder and Intercity Rail to Chicago
Amtrak isn't especially reliable right now. It's interesting that you say this. I walk across the Robert St bridge to work every day at about 7:20 am. For the past month or two the Empire Builder has already pulled into SPUD at least half the days when I cross the bridge. That's a half an hour earl...

Re: Southwest LRT (Green Line Extension)
Why do people think that Midtown is some magic corridor that is viable on it's own? It's not. It most definitely relies on a high quality connection into downtown at least somewhere west of Nicollet. One of the main reasons the Met Council and Metro transit aren't pushing Midtown yet is because SWL...

Re: 2014 Election
I would love to see a Warren/Sanders ticket! The 2016 presidential election is looking to be a repeat of 2004: the Dems nominate an absolutely boring, terrible candidate and get their asses handed to them. I too would love to see a Warren/Sanders ticket. (How old is Bernie anyway? Could that be a l...
