Re: Southdale Area - Edina
I was at Galleria yesterday. I wouldn’t worry about them too much. It was packed with shoppers of all ages and had only a few closed storefronts. It felt like shopping in the 80s again.

Re: Minnesota State Flag and Seal Redeisgn
It’s a good looking flag. I originally liked the stripes, but the more I sit with it, I prefer the refined simplicity of the two blues. It’s a flag I could sketch from memory with only having seen it briefly. I would also be happy to fly it in my yard. https://m.startribune.com/tuesday-we-get-a-flag...

Re: Minnesota State Flag and Seal Redeisgn
They chose the right flag option. I’ll be curious to see which variation they go with. The updated star is an improvement. I prefer the one with the light blue and green stripes but could be swayed by another stripe option. To me, blue and green are MN’s colors (see the State Fair or MN government b...

I took the survey. It seemed more Wild-focused than facility-focused. The biggest ideas seemed to be opening up the concourse more so you can see the rink while you walk around the arena. Also they mentioned creating standing room only ticket club/lounge areas.

Re: HERC - Hennepin Energy Recovery Center
Hennepin County might not be too stressed out about it yet. 2040 might not be ample time to figure out what to do with HERC but it’s plenty of time to work to change the legislation that requires its closure. We weren’t allowed to study Dan Patch until eventually we could again.

Re: The Dayton's Project
I toured the building during Doors Open Minneapolis. They had floors 4, 7 and 12 available to see. Floor 4 was empty other than the historic women’s restroom, which was preserved but nonfunctional. Floor 7 was a stunning amenity level with a beautiful outdoor terrace and fully equipped gym. Floor 12...

Star Tribune has a map that you can toggle between the old and new districts.Looks like the districts were renumbered. Is that typical? Will there be an official map that is this detailed? Is there a comparison version? I’d love to toggle back and forth to see how lines near me shifted.

Re: The Dayton's Project
Those hours seem reasonable for the current situation. It doesn’t mean they can’t change them if needed. Target still closes at 6 as well. I was in the Dayton‘s building last Thursday at 5:30 and it was a ghost town. There was cheery Christmas music echoing off the bare skyway walls. I hung around f...

White letters on a white building. SMH Good design doesn’t have to be expensive. And function doesn’t have to be basic.

Re: Target Center Renovation
A tower on top of an arena is a bad idea. The lifespan of a tower is a lot greater than the lifespan of an arena. And the reuse potential of an old arena is almost nonexistent. Look at the troubles of the Memphis Pyramid. An arena as part of a larger development that includes a tower would work well.

Those stairs have been closed (and broken) for half a dozen years. It is nothing new this year. Having just taken those stairs this past Wednesday, they’re not even in that bad of shape. Mostly just need to replace some missing boards. I wonder why they’ve decided to ignore them instead of repairin...

Re: Bottineau LRT (Blue Line Extension)
It must be pretty rough to have spent the last decade thinking that you were going to get LRT and still be able to keep your giant stroad, and to now realize you might have to choose one or the other. Or that you might be bypassed entirely (Golden Valley) depending on a new alignment. Think about w...

Looks like we'll also be getting rid of at least one side of a billboard. If nothing else, that's an improvement right there.

Re: Izzy's Ice Cream Factory
I love going to Izzy’s for ice cream, but would never buy it in a grocery store. It’s typically more expensive than even the “premium” brands. And their building is practically useless for any other use. I took a tour during Doors Open last year and I’d wonder how flexible the space is.

Re: Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board
My take on the signage (at least around Lake of the Isles) is that it could be better, but is actually really easy and clear to understand. Bikes on the bike path, walkers and runners everywhere else. Simple. Bikes follow the rules of the road. If the road is closed to cars, it is closed to bikes. I...

Not sure where to post this, but it does feature the Nicollet project as an example. It's a story on comparing renderings to the reality of the finished project.

Ike's is closed permanently. startribune.com/ike-s-food-cocktails-in-downtown-minneapolis-is-permanently-closed/566972891/ They tried to blame their closing on crime just like Rojo did. That's not what the article actually says. He cites failed lease negotiations meant to "address restaurant a...
