Re: Public Transit News / Current Events (MN only)
Not to throw too many questions at you, but I am curious what LRT training is like? Are you trained for both Blue and Green? Are the different LRVs different to drive? It sounds like such a fun yet nerve-wracking job... For now we’ve only been trained on the Blue Line but in the next couple weeks w...

Re: Suburban Malls and Associated Retail News
Just got back from europe and the most interesting thing I saw was almost every store with self check out, even Ikea, had one way gates to come into the store and then gates that required you to scan your receipt to get out. Also one of the store actually activated a random "spot check" w...

The rail connection blocked by Hennepin County was between CP and BNSF tracks. The wye track mattaudio is referring to is MN&S Junction: https://www.google.com/maps/@45.0453865,-93.3719889,544m/data=!3m1!1e3?entry=ttu If a train from the west were to go south it would have to go all the way to ...

Re: Public Transit News / Current Events (MN only)
Yes, only two lines, but ~52 miles once both extensions are complete, which (according to Wikipedia) is comparable to Denver's LRT system which has 8 lines. If we really wanted to, we could claim 4 lines once the extensions are open by running an EP to MOA service plus Brooklyn Center to St Paul se...

Re: Fantasy maps
Currently working on the regular bus route part of my fantasy maps and I'm stumped on the description for each bus route. Should it be very detailed by listing literally every street each bus route uses, or simplified with only listing key destinations on each route?

From MVTA's Facebook page: "The Rosemount Transit Station and 157th Street Station Electrification and Enhancements project was recently selected to receive $952,000 in federal funding thanks to various legislators, who submitted the project to the Senate Appropriations Committee for 2024 Congr...

Found this somewhat relevant: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d5pPKfzzL54 Does freight exist? Does that bed in a box you ordered from Amazon magically coalesce inside the Amazon van when it pulls up in front of your house? Like the transporter in Star Trek? The guy has some great jargon that he's j...

One day it's people trespassing to inspect construction, the next day it's people trespassing to block or sabotage construction. For those claiming the 25 foot rule is or isn't a requirement by the FRA, please provide your source. The best I can give to show it's not a requirement are examples aroun...

I believe there's a few rail breaks along the route that need to be repaired. Currently trains have to run at restricted speed in those spots.

Re: Blue Line (Hiawatha LRT)
I wonder if Metro Transit will be doing anything for the Blue Line/Hiawatha Line's 20th birthday this June. I would hope they'll at least do more than just post something on social media. Maybe have a combined celebration with the Green Line's 10th birthday since the dates are pretty close (6/26/04 ...

Re: Public Transit News / Current Events (MN only)
Seems like park & rides are a quasi-ridership generator, because if someone is parking to ride transit they can probably drive to another nearby place to park and ride transit. Similarly, this is why I'm probably somewhat ok with larger structured parking for park and rides (if priced) vs more ...

Re: Public Transit News / Current Events (MN only)
From what I can see on MnDOT's website about the 494 project, nothing will be abutting the Best Buy HQ, so I don't see why the park & ride has to be closed for the freeway expansion. I can see it being closed because they're using the parking lot for construction equipment staging, but it would...

Re: Public Transit News / Current Events (MN only)
Not long ago the park & ride at 35W & 98th Street Station (or as I prefer to call it by its original name South Bloomington Transit Center) was bursting at the seams except maybe Fridays. 10 years ago I said they should build a parking ramp there, and thank goodness nobody listened. Too bad ...

Re: Suburban Transit (Opt-out Services Providers)
While it's great to see interest in improving suburban transit, this is a waste of time and money, and it would be much easier and cheaper to improve local bus routes like the 444 and 447. Throwing a lot of buses and building some fancy stations on a car sewer like County Road 42 won't change the lo...

Re: Gold Line BRT (Gateway Corridor)
Realistically, a 323 extension is likely to be the only additional local service in Woodbury. Another change should be to convert 351 to a "non-stop" variant of the Gold Line, using the BRT buses, or eliminate the express entirely. Also, if the Gold Line doesn't get a Gold ITDP ranking, I...
