Re: Downtown Minneapolis Retail News
Where is the other closure? I had a feeling the one in the library would close. I used to volunteer there and there was definitely an unsafe and hostile feeling there and around the building. Not to say that's a justified or correct feeling, but it was the feeling me and others I would volunteer wit...

Re: Uptown Retail & Restaurant News
If we're having a hypothetical conversation, I could picture an Apple store put into North Loop with some accommodations to design to help it fit in to the space like they did with their location in Covent Garden, London. Granted I don't think we're cool enough to get that sort of special treatment ...

Re: Dinkytower - McDonalds redevelopment
Um, was not expecting this. My dad is the attorney representing one of the owners of the stores they would be redeveloping, but he said he's not remotely interested in selling. Looks like maybe they got to a deal with him? Anyways, as someone moving out of dinkytown next week after 4 years it's been...

Re: Downtown Minneapolis Office Market
As a 22 year old I have almost no contextual reference, but does it feel like companies are beginning to move back into Minneapolis more than they have in recent years? It may be that I'm simply not paying attention to stories about companies moving out for the suburbs, but the headlines seem good a...

Re: Downtown Minneapolis Retail News
It's safe to say it creates an uncomfortable feeling around the area, no matter if the people there are nice or not. I go by there all the time, usually no problems but have had some of them be confrontational towards me. But, the average person (take my parents for example) now avoid this area beca...

Re: Uptown (and LynLake) Development & General Topics
Interesting. I'm moving into Uptown in 2 weeks at Flux apartments and the parking was not included, and it was an additional $125/mo. Every other apartment in that area had parking cost extra and all had full parking garages. One of the interesting things happening with my age group (I'm 22) is a lo...

Re: Bike Share
As a person in pretty good shape who runs and bikes regularly, this is great news to me. After riding electric assisted bikes in Seattle I found them to be much better than the electric scooters. My parents, who never ride the scooters anywhere, were very comfortable riding the bikes. The larger tir...

Re: Downtown Minneapolis Retail News
This may get me in trouble, but I'd just like to hear some opinions on this. Don't get me wrong, I'm very empathetic towards the homeless and feel for the horrible situation they're in. But, is it possible this end of Nicollet will continue to struggle because of the crowd that hangs around that area?

Re: Federal Reserve Riverfront Parking Ramp
Couldn't there be some sort of compromise here? Like wrapping the ramp with apartments and including substantial ground floor retail? Or is this too valuable a piece of property to waste on parking at all? Honestly just curious on people's thoughts.

The Moxy hotel and it's bar is now open in the Ironclad building downtown. Walked by yesterday and they had it completely open to the outside, looks to be a great addition to the area.

Re: Downtown Minneapolis Retail News
I don't think it's as bad as you think, and they are working on it. The Andrus and the Dayton Project should help quite a bit in the downtown core. Also, when the Gateway tower is completed it should add quite a bit to that end of Nicollet and should spur retail to fill into 365 Nicollet and the adj...

Re: I'm on a Boat!
Totally unrelated to this topic, but I had no idea where to put this. Just got back to Vancouver and we absolutely fell in love with their use of boats as a transportation option. My idea was to set-up some sort of water transportation on the Mississippi to serve from somewhere in the Nicollet Islan...

Re: Minneapolis Density and Population Growth (500k, etc)
Don't know where to put this, but this is a huge pet peeve of mine and I want to hear thoughts. There was a story in the Star Trib about the Kraus Anderson HQ block redevelopment including their new "Larking" apartment building. Anyways, they simply referred to Downtown East as "East ...
