Re: Nicollet Mall
This is great! I hope they didn't pay much for the idea of a pedestrian Nicollet when they could have just asked a random person on the street or held a poll. To reduce the bus traffic from the suburbs why not use the orange, blue and green line to bring riders into downtown? This would free up thos...

Re: MPS Comprehensive District Design
$976 million budget for 28000 students? If my calculator is to be believed then they are spending 34,857 per student. I have no idea what the typical student costs but that strikes me as a bit high (especially so given student performance in MPS).

Re: Downtown Minneapolis Restaurant News
Noticed some construction workers hanging a sign for a new restaurant last week. Hopefully I have a new lunch place to try.

Re: Bicycle Infrastructure
Or else we could fund the police enough that they can make traffic violations illegal again and go back up to 90,000 traffic stops a year. I would be more likely to somewhat agree with this statement if it were any other police department. Plus I suspect traffic crime (or crime in general) is more ...

Re: Bicycle Infrastructure
Here is a quote from Minneapolis's Vision Zero Action Plan. "Due to a variety of factors, Minneapolis Police stopped fewer than 3,000 people in 2021 for moving or equipment violations—compared to about 16,000 traffic stops in 2019 and about 90,000 traffic stops in 2012" If traffic laws ar...

Re: Riverview Corridor Streetcar
The quick answer is that to provide 30-minute frequencies on the current Route 83, it takes 3 bus drivers to operate the route at once. If the route was extended to Rosedale but kept 30-minute frequencies, it would take 4 bus drivers. So to extend the route to Rosedale would make the route 33% more...

Re: Red Line (Cedar Avenue BRT)
7 Million? For the 7 people who use that station? I exaggerate but this has to be one of the lowest ridership BRT stops in the system. And the service isn't even BRT. The frequency is every 30 minutes in each direction. If there were high rises in that area that could be connected with this skyway ...

Re: Riverview Corridor Streetcar
A little off topic but what is the deal with route 83 stopping at HarMar and not continuing to Rosedale? Seems a shame to stop just short. The quick answer is that to provide 30-minute frequencies on the current Route 83, it takes 3 bus drivers to operate the route at once. If the route was extende...

Re: Bicycle Infrastructure
It would be nice but I'd settle for better east/west service in south Minneapolis.TIL. This is a really cool service. I'd love for a Southside equivalent. If you live in the service area Metro Transit micro is another option if you want to live car free.

Re: Minneapolis Street Design
I think they could use some bollards around the no parking space just before the lane jogs to the left. When I drove that stretch someone was parked there constraining the driving lane. Seems like a good way to lose a mirror.

Re: Riverview Corridor Streetcar
We've got the 87, the 83, and the 65 Buses! All three of them connect to the greenline and travel further north. The 83 and 87 buses already connect with W 7th, while the 65 bus stops short of it. All of them would be more useful if they connected to Riverview and if they were more frequent! If one...

Re: Riverview Corridor Streetcar
I don't see much room for north/south routes in the area. 35E basically blocks most north/south roads. Victoria crosses 35E north/south but for whatever reason ends just north of 35E. To the west of 35E I see a mile and a half with almost no north/south roads. Maybe bring the A line down Snelling to...

Re: Minneapolis Street Design
I drove down Blaisdell last week and I think it would actually be better with the parking switched to the other side. Not only would the parked cars provide protection for the bike lane but the parking lane becomes the driving lane at some intersections so why not keep the driving lane on the left f...

Re: Riverview Corridor Streetcar
Is development alone enough to create the desired ridership? From what I can tell bus connections really add to ridership. For example, 46th st station has significantly more riders than Cedar Riverside despite the density advantage. Unfortunately west 7th runs parallel to the river so I'm not expec...

Re: Minneapolis Street Design
Maybe Minneapolis should buy a fleet of used Japanese fire trucks. https://flipboard.com/topic/japan/meet-kiri-the-tiny-japanese-fire-truck-in-san-francisco/f-5ad203904b%2Fneatorama.com Half joking but fire trucks don't need to be as large as what Minneapolis currently uses. If people are having tro...

Re: Riverview Corridor Streetcar
What ridership mark would Riverview BRT need to hit for a LRT conversion? The D line is already at half the Blue line's ridership and I haven't heard anything about converting the D line to rail. Personally I'm in favour of a Riverview BRT since ridership of the 54 is less than half of route 5. If I...
