Public schools, charter schools, private schools
Off topic a bit. I read a boilerplate managerial book years ago. The authors surveyed American executives about their routines to illustrate how one can emulate their success. It was what one might expect, work hard, have supportive friends and family, take care of yourself etc. The interesting par...

You gotta remember that with 1,000,000+ extra deaths, and the clear majority of the politically active victims GOP leaning, it wont be quite the home run some think. People always want to think changing demographics are right around the corner to save Democrats. Hint: they aren't. Yes, the recent d...

Re: Green Line Extension - Southwest LRT
ANY hope of getting more light rail politically just went out the window. Agreed. We are already seeing comments from GOP state reps and gubernatorial candidates about this. They are going to use this as the reason the state can't fund any other train lines. If you want to give yourself a good chuc...

"Your" sidewalk is an essential piece of transportation infrastructure. specially if you're near a school or bus line or have disabled neighbors. (emphasis mine) ...I agree that properties on busy streets, near schools and along bus stops would be the most visible and affected spots, and ...

You might be on to something with the city identifying maintenance issues and then having an app to quickly and cheaply contract it out to local residents, but I think leaving enforcement up to citizens (definitively identifying violations and paying them what is effectively a bounty) would be a nig...

Anyone have scuttlebutt on Target office thinking? I spent Christmas Eve with a fairly senior (design department head) Target worker, and when asked, their response was that they are never going back. They said maybe they’ll go in one day a week when there’s a special meeting or something. They were...

Re: Alatus Development - 411-417 Lexington Pkwy (MNDOT Snowpile site)
I would not believe that this current period of inflation would prevent the profitability of an apartment building. The largest single expense is going to be debt service. Which is locked in to origination of the debt. Since everyone believes no one is going to ever move out of a rent controlled ap...

I did happy hour at Iconos last week. I wasn't super excited about another Mexican place (we seem to be getting 'Mexican heavy' in the local restaurant scene, although probably understandably so), but that said, it was really quite good. We just had apps but they were really good and the HH deals we...

There is not a path for police reform. The police have zero interest. The mayor has zero interest. They would prefer to payout multimillion dollar settlements every year than change one thing about their rotten department. Too bad for Minneapolis taxpayer, at least the guys who live in Anoka County...

Ok, here’s my attempt to advance the conversation: My grave discomfort with a poorly written amendment 2 aside, I believe that the best outcomes for the city are (in no particular order): 2 passes (by any margin) and Frey loses -or- 2 fails by a wider margin (say, 55%+ ‘No’) and Frey wins Conversely...

I find that frustrating as well. The notion that a bunch of amendment 2 supporting Caucasians with little fear of violence want to 'whitesplain' public safety to black folks is highly offensive.I understand many on here are okay with racist violence,

If the Mayor and Chief were physically accountable at that moment and committed to hearing people out and seeing the confrontation off, what happened that evening and beyond would not have occurred. It's certainly possible that what you describe may have happened. I happen to believe that it is equ...

Who am I? If I'm the president they're trying to keep in office, I'd be out there in the streets trying to calm them. If I'm the capital police chief, I'd have not had my head in the sand and prepared a bit of Walz ahead of time. C'mon, you are being willfully obtuse. The election facing us is mayo...

If those are the only 3 options, which do you pick in D.C. on the morning of January 6th? I think I go with Frey and Walz. Who am I? Re: Minneapolis 2021 Elections - Mayor, City Council, BET, Park Board
You've got it all backwards. On the wedgelive podcast, Sheila talked about having hot food and bathrooms for protesters. If the cops kill someone, a mayor who gets out on the streets and says "man this shit sucks doesn't it?" and provides actual resources is far more likely to deflate ten...

I agree, if they had a winning season or two things may be different. Sometimes, I wonder what the point of them playing is...given they are so bad. The last time I went to a Timberwolves game (4-5 years ago now?), my most vivid memory was the sound. Or lack of it. For the vast majority of the game...

I'd be interested to see them try for a new arena, just to see how it went down/if the atmosphere has changed. I honestly don't know. My gut feel on team support is that if it all had to re-done today that the Vikings could still manage to get a stadium financed (although it would be harder), but th...

Ha! A hot one coming in a week+ later. I musta hit a nerve!
Maybe we should assess a fee on the people that eat at their desk rather than go out and eat due to the "negative externalities" they cause.
