Re: CPM Cheapo Site proposal - 1300 West Lake St
^^^The area around it has , until recently, been either parking lots or very underutilized properties for decades. Not much built around it to give it context as far as style or historical period etc. Also, when I look at the rendering, I get the impression they are not using cement board for the wh...

Re: CPM Cheapo Site proposal - 1300 West Lake St
Uptown has a long standing tradition of being a hip and trendy area of Minneapolis, with a good amount of pedestrian oriented retail . The architects acknowledge that in the design which reinforces those characteristics of the neighborhood. That's a very good thing. Can't wait to see this built!

Re: 420 E Hennepin Ave
I doubt that the developer will return anytime soon with a proposal for something greater. All they had to friggin' do was add a single story of office space or a couple residential units on top of the building and this would be approved right now. Java Properties does mostly one story retail devel...

"Several at the sparsely attended meeting objected to the way the towers would dwarf pedestrians, arguing that it would create an unpleasant sidewalk environment."

So maybe this will look better from Target Field Station than it does from the entrance ramp to 94. Thank god! The glass box entrance facing Target field actually looks pretty good. Airy and transparent. Including some retail (i.e restaurant ) inside would be a big plus and create more pedestrian t...

Re: CPM Cheapo Site proposal - 1300 West Lake St
I'm not quite sure where the negativity is coming from, but this proposal has a great street level, and if there's a parking podium, it sure is well concealed. The building is very modern, hip, and fun to look at, It avoids the overdose of too many materials on the exterior like The Walkway. It incr...

Excellent infill to create more urban density in Uptown. Kudos to ESG for designing something a little more unique for Uptown.

Re: Mayo Clinic Square
Why we have problems, is we have suburban minded developers that can't find their way out of a paper sack when it comes to market for the city core. I do believe you're correct in this assertion. I would go even farther to say we have an issue with a conservative attitude peppered with a bland prov...

In Cleveland this week visiting my father. Went to check out the new grocery store in the old Cleveland Trust Building rotunda downtown on Euclid Ave. The Tiffany Glass skylight dome was amazing: http://www.heinens.com/downtown/history-architecture/

Re: Mayo Clinic Square
Ok... Enough with the damn restaurants! I want good shopping back in downtown and I don't care if it makes me sound crazy! The guys doing Nic on Fifth, Stone realty, are going after restaurants. I've heard rumors of 4marq going after restaurants. Mayo Clinic wants 3 restaurants on every corner.. Ar...

Re: Walker Art Center Renovation/Entrance
If the truth be known , this project is really to rectify several of the significant flaws of the Herzog & de Meuron addition. I will never figure out why the Walker Board of Directors approved the design. In particular, I'll never know why they approved the Hennepin Ave side to be the main entr...

Re: North Loop Neighborhood
I like the white brick and windows which give it some unique qualities. Agree if the brick has a slightly shiny glaze it will accentuate the white even more creating a very modern look.

Interesting and sort of odd ESG is the architect for competing developers! They certainly have a monopoly in this city. There must be some kind of antitrust law they are breaking...lol

Re: National Marrow Donor Program HQ - (524 Fifth Street Nor
I've brought up this argument before, but in areas where there has been significant public funding to enhance infrastructure or create amenities (like parks, renovation of Nicollet Mall, etc.), I do think the standards should be raised for developers to build projects with higher quality and good de...

Thanks for the clarification. My dementia's flaring up todayJohn, Sherman has the blue lighting, Mortensen has the White and Cor-tenSherman and Mortenson are both good proposals. Love the blue lighting scheme of Mortenson's hotel. Sherman's ESG design perhaps fits the best.

Re: National Marrow Donor Program HQ - (524 Fifth Street Nor
It is becoming a standby on urbanmsp: "This building is better than a [surface parking lot/single story old thing/abattoir/etc] so it must be good. Amirite?" Then there is the other standby: "I want this parking lot to remain a parking lot until Frank Lloyd Wright comes back from the...

Re: Guthrie Ramp Block Vacant Site - (800 Washington Avenue)
ESG is the architect. They have a tremendous monopoly and are designing at least 75% of the new projects going up downtown. On some ways that's fine , because they're a good firm and can design a great building when given the opportunity. However, there's a certain stylistic monotony with so many o...

Re: National Marrow Donor Program HQ - (524 Fifth Street Nor
The building's exterior design should have taken its cues from The Warehouse District to give it better context and a more urban feel. Not sure why that issue wasn't addressed when it went through the city approval process.

I like it. What Murals should have been. The previous two designs were beautiful and fit in better with the neighborhood. Boy this this neighborhood organization does a lot of self sabotaging!
