If nothing else it will make the screen in Union Depot with upcoming Amtrak trains a tiny bit less depressing

https://www.axios.com/local/twin-cities/2024/04/15/downtown-minneapolis-skyscrapers-demolition-teardown-ameriprise Hadn't really thought of this, but as its laid out it makes sense, unfortunately. That said it wouldn't be a massive loss, but id rather they implode the sleep number HQ (which just mi...

Re: Street, Road and Highway Projects
Have full time bus lanes quietly been removed from the First & Hennepin project? I could have sworn the design layout that was linked on the project site was "2023". Now it's "2024" and the layout shows TRANSIT PRIORITY LANE/PARKING and references part-time transit priority ...

Re: Blue Line Extension - Bottineau LRT
My vibes based ridership estimate is essentially meaningless but that number does feel low considering how strong the routing through north loop, northside, and downtown Robbinsdale looks. That being said the Bottineau Blvd section past downtown Robbinsdale looks terrible and the Brooklyn Park secti...

Re: Blue Line Extension - Bottineau LRT
The article says that the “base price” is $2.2 Billion and the rest of the budget is contingency for unexpected costs. So hopefully if it gets built it will come in “under” the $3 billion price tag or at least not go over it

Are you going to the U of M?^ as a suburban urbanist and bus enthusiast, I cannot wait for that unlimited student transit pass... honestly one of things I look forward to the most about college.

Re: Purple Line BRT (Rush Line Corridor)
I agree it would be hard to pivot to highway 36 brt from purple line with a quick turnaround but I do think highway 36 is one of the most promising highway brt options if we are going to keep building highway BRT. It would capture a lot of park and ride customers traveling to Minneapolis from the no...

Re: Nicollet Mall
I always read that BRT is way more flexible than LRT… if 2nd/marq makes the most sense but connections aren’t great let’s move the station!

Re: Nicollet Mall
There was a joint presentation from Public Works and Metro Transit to the Council today on the legislative directive to study removing buses from Nicollet Mall. ( Report version ). Notably, there's a (soft?) deadline in play - Metro Transit needs to inform the FTA by April if there's going to be a ...

Re: Riverview Corridor Streetcar
I’m a fan of option 1. The fact that the bus option can’t interline with the blue line is a pretty big downside.

Public Transit News / Current Events (MN only)
Metro transit published monthly ridership through September: https://www.metrotransit.org/performance Highest post-covid ridership yet, which I think was somewhat expected since September seems to be the highest ridership month. Driven by jump in ridership on the green line (likely caused by college...

Re: Street, Road and Highway Projects
As a car hater I think this is a huge improvement over the existing stroad and should reduce crashes thereby saving lives and preventing injury. It’s still obviously car centric but is about the best one can hope for in Blaine. I would be pissed about this in Minneapolis or Saint Paul but no complai...

Re: Public Transit News / Current Events (MN only)
https://www.metrotransit.org/performance Metro transit ridership data has been released for August. Slight increase in ridership over July, with most services modestly increasing in ridership. Noticeable jump in riders on the Orange and A lines, noticeable drop in riders on the D line. Overall a pos...

Re: Blue Line Extension - Bottineau LRT
IMO making car trips less convenient while improving walking, biking, and transit connectivity is exactly what we should be doing in thriving downtown neighborhoods like North Loop

Re: Denver
Thanks, everyone, for the tips. All very helpful. Last night I booked a trip ... to Charlotte. Moral of the story: If you have a Delta companion certificate be aware that options are super restrictive. Almost everything involved very early morning flights. Denver had an option for an 11am return, b...

Re: Denver
Is Denver worth visiting for a weekend without a car? I've got some rewards points to burn by the end of the year but it feels like the whole point of going to Colorado is to get out of the city, and some digging around online hasn't convinced me otherwise yet. If you end up going, I definitely rec...

Re: Purple Line BRT (Rush Line Corridor)
Pardon my crappy drawing on a screenshot, but I really think the original purple line is the best option when you overlay it on our current system. There is no direct way to get from that part of the east side to downtown besides using the trail corridor. Especially the area East of Lake Phalen near...

If we start converting lines to LRT we can reuse the letters!Probably no O line either, then. Guess we're stuck with just 24 letters - let's hope we're forced to use Greek

Re: Blue Line Extension - Bottineau LRT
I am also assuming there is a soft plan to try to roll over the green line project office staff into this project. That should help keep it moving as well as you don't have to start from scratch like they did with southwest because of the gap in time between it and central corridor. Sounds like we ...
