Re: Met Council
East Bethel is a great case study of why it was a huge mistake to allow discontinuous segments of MUSA (Metro Urban Services Area; i.e. the parts of the region that are connected to the regional wastewater system). If the MUSA ran through Ham Lake contiguously, East Bethel could have been connected ...

Re: Highland Bank Redevelopment - Minnetonka
The Strib article actually has some details on the approval: http://www.startribune.com/local/west/286670981.html It seems that the revisions include lowering the height by 3 (three) feet and "adding more green space" by eliminating the sidewalk along Ridgedale Drive. The site is ringed by...

Re: Interstate 35W
Now that I think about it, I believe that MnDot was specifically reacting to an idea for a roundabout in the trench. Sorry, I obviously wasn't picking up on the thrust of your conversation that the existing ramp just be used, which makes more sense.

Re: Interstate 35W
I heard a rumor that this was discussed when CPED met with MnDot as part of the West Bank Initiative. The MnDot reps supposedly said that there would be grade issues with replacing the flyover with an exit to the trench. That is obviously bullshit. I would like to see the city pass a resolution favo...

Re: Suburbs - General Topics
The shoreline vegetation is actually an important part of their function in the water cycle. Ultimately these are an important part of public infrastructure in that they keep all of the pollutants that are essential to the classic suburban way of life (primarily lawn fertilizers and pesticides, whic...

Re: Robert Street Corridor Arterial BRT
The way I read it, they're trying to get the affected municipalities to adopt TOD zoning, so they can use the greater potential development to justify higher investment in transit. Maybe I'm being too pessimistic, but that seems risky given the implied reluctance of the municipalities to do so. It's...

I believe the term 'car-go-boom-boom' is used most often in academic literature.
EDIT: Oh wait, no, I just checked lexus nexus and it turns out the troglodytes in the academy actually use 'crash.'

I'm in unmitigated agreement with yourself that the linguistic construction 'crash' has two few syllables to be considered appropriate for serious writing."Car crash" looks absurd in formal writing.

Re: Nye's Polonaise Room - 100 block of E Hennepin Avenue
The Council then overrode the decision for 1500 6th St S. It would probably be more difficult politically to do the same for the Nye's buildings, of course.

There are dozens of express routes that use the stretch of 35W that lost the shoulders. The 250 alone has like 30 trips per day. Please use the interactive map to look for yourself.

How odd that they neglected to mention that this project removed the transit-use shoulder from northbound 35W.

Re: Central Park West (at West End) - St. Louis Park
It looks like the code encourages open space provision for PUDs (at least of this density) through conditions listed on pp 9-10. Also note on page 13 that SLP code would require over 1,000 trees to be planted based on the proposed density, and they're ostensibly providing open space in lieu of all t...

This plan is mostly to add sidewalks to collectors and arterials that currently (shamefully) lack them: http://edinamn.gov/edinafiles/files/City_Offices/Engineering/Transportation/Sidewalk_Facilities_CompPlanNov14.pdf The streets getting sidewalks are ones where cars regularly drive 40mph. In my exp...

Re: Rush Line Corridor (Alternatives Analysis)
I'd say it would be preferable to get it closer to the Maplewood Mall. There is a greater concentration of uses there, and probably greater redevelopment potential given the wetlands at the 61/Beam intersection. There is enough ROW on White Bear for it to follow that all the way to White Bear Lake (...

Re: Highland Bank Redevelopment - Minnetonka
Unless the plans have changed since the ones posted here in August, the comments about being supportive with changes are just a smokescreen. There is literally no way for the building to be set back further; it sits smack in the middle of the parcel.

Re: Robert Street Corridor (Alternatives Analysis)
Northern Dakota County is not a good candidate for LRT because it is so multipolar. The transit-supportive residential is in the north and east, the jobs are in the west, and the commercial is in the Robert St strip. That's why BRT makes the most sense here. There could be a roughly T-shaped system ...

Re: Pentagon Park (Hwy 100 & Industrial Blvd) - Edina
It would have been nice if they had reserved some land for higher-density residential development along the southern and eastern edges. But I'm assuming that would have been difficult due to the bad blood from closing the money-pit golf course that the cake eaters felt entitled to?
