Re: Bike Share
Personally I'm hoping the scooters prove a short trend and leave the market when the novelty wears off.

Re: Bike Share
So the current blue bikes definitely ride better than the current green bikes. I don't see any reason why the docked bikes can't be more like the dockless bikes from a ride perspective though - there's nothing inherent about docking or not that requires the things about the two types of bikes that a...

According to Wired, the NTSB has determined, among other things, that the Uber self-driving cars weren't programmed to detect pedestrians outside crosswalks (!!!):

Re: O'Gara's Development - 164 Snelling Ave N
I'm not actually surprised. Talking with the owner of Banh Appetit a couple weeks back, he told me that they'd had every intention of reopening in their old location, but the rent in the new building was so much higher that they couldn't justify it. I'm guessing that's what's happening here. Hopeful...

My favorite part is the picture on page 11 with the dude sitting on the bench holding out a can, and the dude digging in his pocket in front of him. Shows what the architects think of Dinkytown, eh? Snark aside, nobody could accuse it of being an attractive building. I understand this is college hou...

I mean, it's called the sunk costs fallacy for a reason.I'd say you're both right -- rationally, people shouldn't consider the sunk costs, but people aren't always rational.

Re: B Line Lake St Rapid Bus, Midtown Rail Transit
Can someone remind me, so the main benefits on travel times from this type of BRT is that it will have fewer stops along it's route, higher frequency and signal priority correct? Or are they considering the red painted bus only lanes during some parts of the day like we see on Hennepin and Chicago ...

Re: MSP to Rochester High Speed Rail
One thing that needs to happen is to build more of a base in the MSP region for these services rather than relying on individual regions in Greater MN to lobby for their lines. This. The Greater MN regions all are absolutely auto-dependent so a train into the Cities, while nice for commuters or cas...

Re: Future Cars: Electric and Autonomous Vehicles
Meanwhile, vaping is how the tobacco industry got the number of people addicted to nicotine to grow again and electric vehicles will be the excuse used to ward off changes that might help decrease car dependence, so, yeah... It's the auto industry's dream future - people still moving in privately o...

So I'll grant I'm giving them a huge benefit of the doubt, but the location in the lede would be where the disclosure occurred, not where the site will be developed. So if the developer disclosed more details in Minneapolis, then it's correct.

Re: Bike Share
Around Cedar-Riverside they'd been putting the "hubs" in the main traffic area of sidewalks. I complained about one of the more egregious ones on Twitter and they removed it. It appears that they'd been operating under the assumption that dockless hubs could be marked wherever they felt li...

Just a note that Google *LOVES* Ayd Mill Road. Getting from any part of Minneapolis near Lake Street to anything in the general vicinity of Eagan, Apple Valley, Rosemount, etc., Google will send you on Ayd Mill Road 100% of the time. My wife and I joke that it would probably send us to Duluth via Ay...

Sorry if there's already a thread for it. I'm now driving by the Starbucks at Snelling and Marshall every weekday morning and I have to say I'm blown away that such a phenomenally terrible land use was approved this decade by Saint Paul. Drive thrus of any sort don't belong in a place that dense, bu...

Of course, it doesn't go unsaid because you said it. I guess we'll see if that holds true though; Dinkytown has weird specific politics. It goes unsaid how huge that council turnover in the 2013 election was for development.

Great. So much for getting sedentary people to be active - just give them a motor instead. They'll need to change their branding and advertising.
