Re: Southdale Area Development - Edina
During rush hour all the lanes are used. Blown away they got rid of the free turns. That's fantastic. They really gotta do this to compete with west end.

Re: Uptown Development Map and General Discussion
http://www.raidsonline.com is the new crime map for Mpls. Not all cities are participating yet so you will see gaps, e.g. in st paul, edina, etc. They offer to integrate with the police department for free, I believe.

Re: Cedar Point Commons (Target) - Richfield
It's great to see people supportive of the off-street cycle tracks on 66th street, as well as reducing the through lanes from 4 to 2 west of Nicollet.

Re: Cedar Point Commons (Target) - Richfield
Well that's really disappointing. Richfield has a lot of potential. They should take a cue from Edina and Minneapolis; those places are making great strides with walkability and bicycling.

Re: Cedar Point Commons (Target) - Richfield
Why is Richfield so dilapidated looking? Driving down 66th street feels like driving through Bosnia. Drama much? Richfield is a post-WWI community. It has rows and rows of homes built quickly and cheaply, but that doesn't mean they are dilapidated! Where do you live? Do you own a house? If so, I hi...

Re: Lennar Mixed-Use Project (6725 York Ave) - Edina
It's Edina. Of course they're going to put a parking lot in front. Nothing to see here. Maybe we should just fold up this forum right now then or at least any discussion about suburban development. I guess we should just accept that things are going to KEEP being done the way that they have histori...

They should put a lazy river through the mall. They already got ziplines.

Re: Pedestrian Safety and Infrastructure Improvements
You just gave me an interesting thought. If the cities plowed all their sidewalks, they'd have to make them all 6 feet wide to fit the machines. Good for pedestrians. And they'd have to do a better job keeping the sidewalks level, to keep the plow machine from upturning. Might not be a bad thing...m...

36 is terrifying. There's houses that literally butt-up to it by those stoplights. I see kids and dogs running around front yards there with cars whizzing by at freeway speeds.

Is stuff just moving in closer to Minneapolis? The Target and Home Depot in Richfield are nice and new. The ones in Bloomington off 494 are languishing.

http://www.cnn.com/2014/02/12/us/winter-storm-power-lines/ After a 2002 storm that knocked out electricity to 2 million customers in North Carolina, regulators there took a look at what it would cost to bury the three major power companies' overhead lines. The state Utilities Commission concluded th...

What do you consider price ranges of rents? I tend to think <$1000 basic, $1000 to $1600 as mid range, $1600 to $2200 luxury, above $2200 extra luxury

Re: Embarrassing Confessions of Urbanists
I used to be for removing the skyways, and I think the argument for that is very well reasoned, but I have flip-flopped and now think the skyways have unique charm. My reasoning is if a mall can sustain 4 stories of foot traffic, a good urban area should be able to handle 2. Simplistic argument perh...
