428 / Woolworth
New article about the 428 / Woolworth in the Star Tribune. ----- Pat Wolf’s vision for the 428 may seem counterintuitive for those accustomed to dismissing downtown St. Paul’s office market as forever struggling. But her project, as well as some other recent market signals, suggest that developers b...

Re: Street, Road and Highway Projects
The three lane trial on Maryland Ave. in St. Paul proved pretty successful. It will be made permanent. In the past, bringing this topic up on any East St Paul social media group brought a wide-array of impassioned responses. It seems like it is much more muted now; I think people have gotten used t...

Re: Roseville / Rosedale - General Topics
If the Herberger's does close, I wonder if Lifetime Fitness would open up a location there, the way they are doing at Southdale -- though not having a mall entrance is a big blunder. I used to live just a few miles away from Rosedale, and the nearest Lifetime locations are White Bear Lake, Minneapol...

Re: Roseville / Rosedale - General Topics
Seems short-sighted to remodel a store, and then close it a year later.
It would lend me to believe this closure has nothing to do with the profitability or strength of Rosedale.

428 / Woolworth Rehab
The 428 (former Woolworth) has uploaded some pretty neat 360 degree views of their construction progress thus far.

36 & 120 interchange
Update: http://eastsidereviewnews.com/articles/2018/03/14/possible-funding-found-highway-36century-avenue-intersection-upgrades I think that it should be a top priority that if any work is done at the Hwy 36 & 120 interchange that it INCLUDES on/off ramps (tight diamond interchange) as to not cu...

Re: Pioneer Press Builing - 345 Cedar Street
Looking at the photos posted above it looks like interior demo is underway on upper levels, but I really wish they would take care of their skyway ASAP. It smells like a combination of shit and cigarette smoke, the walls have what appears to be gang symbols drawn on them, the floors were sticky/dirt...

Re: Suburban Malls and Associated Retail News
I totally agree. Condo sales have been strong in the area surrounding the mall. The parking lots are way too huge; I have never seen them full in all the decades I have been going to that mall. Building housing around the perimeter would likely make the mall more attractive too. Heck, if Sears goes,...

Re: Suburban Malls and Associated Retail News
When I was there a few weeks ago I was surprised to see the newly opened Admiral's next to the merry go round. That used to be just kiosk space, now it's a bar/restaurant?!?!? I hope they do well. Maplewood Mall is trying SO hard. I forgot to mention that! I think that is a good addition, just suck...

Re: Robbinsdale, Crystal & New Hope – General Topics
Once the Robbinsdale store opens, it will undoubtedly hemorrhage customers from New Hope -- or vice versa. The stores are only 3 miles apart. Not only that, but the Cub Foods right in between them is getting a serious upgrade. That's too many large stores in a small trade area. I suspect history is ...

Re: Suburban Malls and Associated Retail News
I took a spin through the Maplewood Mall this past weekend. Vacancies seem to be up slightly. Journeyz moved from a small space on the second floor to a larger space on the first. Teavana closed. The Hockey Lodge closed. The Calendar Store closed. DQ/Orange Julius closed. Hoff Jewelers is preparing ...

Re: Minneapolis Skyway System
Have people heard how the businesses in the Skyway are doing with the big game? Max's Cafe's owner wrote to the Star Tribune that he was down 20% and Park Cafe in the Government Center is closing on Thursday I think. I'm afraid that the workers are fleeing and the tourists aren't taking their place...

Tour of Fabulous Robbinsdale (Pt. 2)
This funny satirical video on YouTube about the ineptness of the Robbinsdale city government has been going viral. I think plenty of people here would get a kick out of it, too. MPR: Speak no ill of Robbinsdale, employee learns Thoughts and prayers are with the city officials of Robbinsdale, who got...

I took a swing through yesterday, followed by a trip to the Gaviidae store to compare and contrast. -The lighting is LED, and actually looks a bit nicer and more modern than the lighting they have in the Gaviidae store. I like the polished concrete far more than the rubberized and ugly tiles in the ...

Re: Galtier Plaza
I took a swing through Galtier yesterday. It is dead, dead, dead. There is only one vendor left in the food court; the Chinese restaurant. Subway moved out on January 2nd. Either Nan is trying to run out their leases, or they have had it with her. I wonder if a long term lease between Chinese and Ga...

Re: Oakdale -New Hadley Interchange Traffic Circles- 36
Yeah, it looks horrible from a future development point of view - Oakdale is not that big and this wipes a whole stretch that would have been productively used land. For what it's worth, Mills Fleet Farm owns most of that land, and is donating it to MNDOT. They've been intending on doing that for o...

Re: Wabasha Center (Former Macy's) - Downtown St. Paul
Ugly signage going up at Macy's today. Also, Walgreens opened up December 1st and it's pretty disappointing-- interior finishes that make it feel like a Costco store, no grab-and-go section, bifurcated design makes it confusing. Overall low quality buildout compared to the DT Mpls one. I'm not a fa...
