Re: North Loop Neighborhood
As referenced in an F&C article that I won't bother linking to as it's locked hard, Metro Transit is making progress on its Heywood campus expansion plans: http://metrocouncil.org/Council-Meetings/Committees/Transportation-Committee/2015/June-8,-2015/Heywood-Campus-Planning-ppt.aspx It looks lik...

http://tamalesybicicletas.weebly.com/re ... -yard.html The second graphic was posted in the Facebook group, and while a little inflammatory (radioactive waste barrel? really?), is nowhere near as accusatory as the first one. In general that site to me takes a pretty negative view of the city and it...

Re: Roof Depot site
My understanding is that the city has continued to designate this area as industrial rather than transitional industrial in the comprehensive plans over the vehement objection of East Phillips (and Seward and Longfellow), without even pretending to consider changing. I believe I talked to a planner ...

Re: Stadium Village Tower
A small correction: zoning doesn't allow a building this dense here any more than it does in any other part of the city. This building will need a lot of variances to go through. It will be helped by its proximity to LRT and that's about it, zoning-wise.

Re: 420 E Hennepin Ave
Grambsch of NIEBNA raises an interesting objection: This site is in the Pedestrian Overlay (PO) district which permits no more than 10% of the street facing perimeter of the site to be developed into surface parking. T this site the limit is approximately 60 lineal feet in total. The proposed design...

Re: Google Maps
Do I just have a shitty graphics card or something (because I do)? For me, there's no comparison. Even if bing doesn't zoom as far, it shows significantly more detail: https://gettingaroundmpls.files.wordpress.com/2015/05/broadwayplacegoogle.png https://gettingaroundmpls.files.wordpress.com/2015/05/...

Re: Google Maps
I've been looking for apartments in a remote city for the last couple weeks, and I had to switch to bing because google's 3d view doesn't come close to the detail of the classic oblique aerial. It's fine for traditional american downtowns and mountain ranges, but pretty much every other place type i...

Re: Metro Transit Service Improvement Plan 2014
If you've ever been witness to the great bus rodeo that convenes hourly on Nicollet Mall as part of the Night Owl service, you'd know that it's not just a handful of people who need this service. You're right, it's not just a handful of people who need this service, which is part of why there is a ...

Re: 7th Street Transit "Advantage" Bus Stops
I haven't been paying close attention to this so I don't know what's been made public yet. I was told last April by Metro Transit's director of transit planning that once they finished these "super happy fun advantage" bus stops, the northbound 19 would no longer stop at either side of Nic...

Re: 7th Street Transit "Advantage" Bus Stops
The 2nd slide depicts the stops on the south side of 7th street. If the buses traveling west on 7th were to stop there, their doors would be facing north, away from waiting passengers. It just occurred to me that maybe this is a hint that there will be a contraflow lane on 7th St, but I'm pretty sur...

Also in the Strib today, an article about Augsburg completing fund raising for a new $50m building: http://www.startribune.com/local/minneapolis/302259421.html I don't expect it, but I hope the city rejects this campus plan. Cutting off 7th St would be contrary to comp plan goals to preserve and reb...

Re: Prospect Park - General Topics
In today's Strib article about the Glendale townhomes redevelopment , Phyllis Kahn says she wants the state's billion-dollar investment in light rail to serve low density housing: Others are opposed to the expanded redevelopment, preferring the current layout and housing mix. “It is an absolutely te...

Re: 7th Street Transit "Advantage" Bus Stops
I hope they don't plan to build the stops where they indicate in the 2nd slide of that presentation. I think it would delay the buses to require passengers to board them on the side that doesn't have doors (or maybe just the opposite?). Did we talk yet about how the 19 isn't going to stop at Nicolle...

Re: Metro Transit Service Improvement Plan 2014
I wonder why the 4 is the only route singled out for splitting up? Some routes, like the 6, have branches that make sense for interlining, but plenty of others don't. I've heard rumors that the 5 has been considered for splitting due to the extreme length of the line. The 17, in particular, I've tho...

The city council hasn't yet approved the layout for this, have they? Isn't the construction mitigation usually figured out after a design is finalized?

Re: Superior Plating site
Sorry for the classic internet move of meeting humor with pedantics, but I'm still stinging from how Steve Minn got away with calling his parking lot a woonerf. I find it particularly tragic that these skeezy developers have seized on woonerf for their buzzword, since it really can emcompass lots of...

Re: Superior Plating site
Yes. The point of a woonerf is that children should be able to use the majority of the street for playspace. If they are fenced in by bollards to using only the edges of the street, then it is not a woonerf. Ergo and thusly, the space proposed by Lennar Corporation is not a woonerf.

Re: Interstate 94
Given that they have angled the 13th Ave approaches to make it impossible for people on them to see the cars coming from 94 or 55 that they have to merge with, maybe they intend to signalize those movements. I would personally have preferred for the 94 and 55 traffic to each get their own phase, so ...

Olson Hwy. redesign 'essential' for light rail, mayor's office says: http://www.startribune.com/local/blogs/294865921.html Kudos to Hodges' office for making this an issue. I've been concerned since I saw the preliminary drawings showing Olson retaining six lanes and the median obliterated. This was...
