Yes, lovely ideas. Boom Island park itself is criminally underrated but it could be even better with some tweaks.

Re: Civilian Shoveling Corps
Honestly, the St. Paul alley analogy is intriguing. Basically, each block could just pay someone to clear the entire block, perhaps the same company that clears the alleys. Of course, the city could do it too...

To be fair, the Frogtown neighbors (including Ms. Swift quoted in article) had also voiced their preference for the vacant lot status quo versus any realistic development here. We'll see if her claim this is a bluff holds water.

Re: Saint Paul enacts rent control
Rent control can curtail the disingenuous NIMBY objections that new properties will just raise rents for long time residents, so it may make more ambitious fill in projects have less objections. I like this bit and I really hope you're right. Unfortunately, fixed income homeowners seem to be bigges...

If you're into driving a LOT and ... white pastoralism, Chanhassen is tops!
It's a pleasant place, sure, but you're in your car way, way too much if you live there.
Perhaps ironically, they'll soon be fairly close to the terminus of one of the metro's premier transit lines.

Re: Saint Paul Districts and Neighborhoods
I can hardly even name my own neighborhood in St. Paul. Union Park (District Council) -- boring, nondescript name, Merriam Park -- better, but associated with the uppity areas north of St. Thomas and around the park itself, Snelling-Hamline -- two ... parallel roads(?). This is a great project for s...

Talking with the Pulte site foreman, the rowhomes will have EVSE availability as an option. He did not know the amperage off the top of his head. Hopefully 60 or 80, and honestly I think the feature should be standard. 5 years from now it will be. Installing at minimum 50A breaker and a 14-50 outle...

Re: 695 Grand (Dixies - Saji-Ya site) - 5 stories, 81 units
The coalitions of city council support for this vs. the frankly very similar Alatus project is worth reviewing. We're more okay with a less affordable project in an already wealthy area. And this project required actually tearing something existing down.

Re: 695 Grand (Dixies - Saji-Ya site) - 5 stories, 81 units
Any reason to think this would get different treatment from Mayor Carter as the Alatus project? I almost wonder with Noecker apparently now opposed if there might be a 5-2 supermajority to overrule the Mayor on a potential veto. Different neighborhood and circumstances, obviously.

Did that Strib expose even mention condominiums? That seems like the "half-measure" that could be affordable to more people at entry level, and might allow eventual SFH ownership (once equity is accumulated) if so desired.

Grand Marais does have high-speed internet now, though. More mobility to work remotely could lead some to move there full-time or nearly so. I considered it, but too many attachments locally for me.

Re: Greater Minnesota job market / employment news
Grand Marais has had a well known, house-of-cards staffing problem for years. Those J-1 visas were never really a solution. Now their staffing issues are apparently laid bare. Besides Mr. Backlund buying a house/building to put employees in, it's hard to see a direct solution here. The whole region ...

Considering all the young families moving to my neighborhood in St. Paul, I don't know if that makes this more concerning or hopefully just a passing trend... certainly not great for optics.
