Re: Southside - News & General Topics
I hadn't noticed it before, but this project at 5200 34th Ave S (kitty-corner to Nokomis Hardware and a block south of Oxendale's Market) is nearly buttoned up on the outside. If this letter is still accurate, it has 20 apartment units and 1,928 square feet of office space in front. http://nokomisea...

I'm not sure how I feel about the color scheme, but the brown tones of Amber Apartments (4525 Hiawatha Ave) was blending well with fall colors when I took this photo on Oct 23rd. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/51627388402_610e942769_z.jpg PXL_20211023_164838215 by Michael Hicks , on Flickr

Re: Snelling Yards affordable & senior housing development - 3601 44th St E
I took these first two photos on Oct. 21st when I was going past. There was signage up for construction workers on the existing site fencing. They're using the address 4440 Snelling Ave S. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/51629066970_870f601bb4_z.jpg PXL_20211021_172216408 by Michael Hicks , on F...

Re: Amtrak Empire Builder and Intercity Rail to Chicago
I think the fastest stretch in Minnesota would be from around Hastings to the northern/western edge of Red Wing. The book The Hiawatha Story by Jim Scribbins has a log of speeds that a train had on February 2, 1939, which maxed out at 100 mph in a few spots in Wisconsin. The train (the Milwaukee Roa...

Some pictures of The Shale Apartments by Minnehaha Parkway and Hiawatha Ave from Thursday. The construction zone for sewer work that had blocked off the north side of the Minnehaha Parkway bridge for the past 18 months or whatever is finally being cleared out, so it's possible to get a relatively un...

Unless something has changed really recently, the site has the same owner ("Dr. Joan World Holdings"), so they're probably just expanding.

Re: Hiawatha-Minnehaha Corridor - General Topics
Oh, right, the northwest corner of 46th and Minnehaha (4554 Minnehaha). I was just guessing it would just be a redo of the parking lot when I went by several days ago, but maybe it's something more. Had that been a service station in a previous life? Maybe they're doing some environmental cleanup?

Re: Hiawatha-Minnehaha Corridor - General Topics
I noticed there has been some prep work for this project combining the three 3122, 3124, and 3128 Minnehaha Ave parcels into a shared site, though I'm not clear on how many units it will have -- seemed like perhaps 30 if I read the site plan correctly, though that only shows an outline for a single ...

Re: Hiawatha-Lake - Minnehaha - Downtown Longfellow
The old AutoZone technically had brick, but it had a largely white exterior. I don't know my materials all that well, but the new one appeared to be using cinder blocks for the walls, which I suspect is more substantial than what they had before. The old building was a bit farther north, zero setbac...

Re: Cambria / Fairfield Hotels - 41 10th Street N (former Ramada block)
I think these belong here, though the Hennepin County Property map says they are 1024 and 1000 Hawthorne Ave rather than being part of the 41 10th St. N parcel , which is behind them. (I assume this just means the property had been split up.) https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/51210773591_8d9508946...

Re: South Nicollet / Kingfield-Lyndale-Tangletown-Windom Neighborhoods
I happened to see the 4220 Nicollet project last weekend and snapped a photo of it. I didn't notice whether anything was going on at the Curran's site up the street, though it's not a neighborhood I'm terribly familiar with in the first place. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/51210058417_9471407f...

The project at 3801 Hiawatha Avenue is now known as CityLine Apartments. This continues to be somewhat strange for a residential building, since I'm seeing steel beams and supports. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/51206620385_8b1e9611f5_z.jpg PXL_20210527_001426679 by Michael Hicks , on Flickr h...

Re: Lunds & Noko(mis) Apartments - Cedar & Minnehaha Pkwy
Hmm. I wouldn't be surprised if it's temporary and only intended to be used while Noko was going up, though you'd think they would have hooked into that by now.
