Re: Cambria / Fairfield Hotels - 41 10th Street N (former Ramada block)
I still can't believe this is a downtown project.

Re: University of Minnesota - General Topics & Development Map
Maybe because of their utilitarian nature? Maybe the uses inside highly dictate how the building looks (or more than we might think)? Not sure though, just a guess.

Re: Downtown Minneapolis Office Market
Kroger was interested in an acquisition of Shipt before Target bought it, and these discussions are rumored to be related to an ecommerce-related strategic partnership, rather than a merger. An acquisition is even less likely - the two companies have strong brands, but they don't overlap. Kroger is...

Re: Making my own drawings
I had a whole write up on Sketchup before I saw you had some trouble with it. Biggest thing to remember is that the units are typically in inches, So to build a box, type in 5', 6' and hit enter. You have a box now you can push or pull. There's not a lot of good free software out there today but fr...

Re: Autonomous vehicles impact on real estate
Well, I think the most interesting aspect of all of this is that Political leaders are considering letting these future AV companies (Google, Uber, etc.) include some kind of disclosure that prohibits any potential accident victims from filing a lawsuit against the companies at fault. They'd be allo...

Re: What wrong with our parks?
Minnehaha Falls Park is probably my favorite Minneapolis park. The addition of Sea Salt and subsequent pavilion renovation a couple years ago really polished up this place nicely. It feels like a European park to me. Not to mention Longfellow Gardens right next to it. I agree with Karen and also th...

Re: What wrong with our parks?
Plastic slides are a great way to scare kids with shocks. So....go back to metal (burns) or wood (splinters) then? What do you suggest? I don’t disagree with you per se, but playgrounds are plastic for a reason. Sometimes THE most fun and engaging playground is one made with natural elements, like ...

Re: Municipally-financed Waterpark at MOA - Bloomington
I've always wondered why LRT didn't run right down the middle of Lindau Ln, have a below grade transit hub right in front of the mall then turn north up toward IKEA where it could use a parking lot to turn around. It really made sense to me a few years ago when they were redoing the area. Plus it w...

Re: Wooddale Station Area / PLACE Proposal - St. Louis Park
I’m not “on fleek” with the lingo these days, so pardon me when I ask: what does “smashy” mean? Was something new taken down today? I drive by here multiple times a day and haven’t noticed much recent activity. Or is this referencing the American Legion site, which I do not drive by quite as often a...

Re: Smaller Scale Multi-Family Infill
In the Strib article, Frey talks about how this is part of the Minneapolis 2040 plan that's forthcoming, and that he doesn't like this piece being leaked without the context of the rest of the plan. I wonder if some of the rest of the plan might mitigate the neighborhood impacts of this. IMO this w...

Re: 2510 Riverside Avenue Apartments - 80 units / 6 stories
What residents are making this complaint? Aren't the vast majority of the residents in this neighborhood renting? Of all of the 6-story bricks to be built in the city, this is one that actually has some aesthetic appeal.

So is this the 3rd new housing project in this immediate vacinity (1-block radius)? Here's what I was referencing: 18 West 15th Street: https://forum.streets.mn/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=4117&p=130310&hilit=CPM#p130310 1500 Nicollet Avenue: https://forum.streets.mn/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=3...

Re: Thrivent Headquarters Block - 6th St and Portland Ave
^The Thrivant building is office space with 15-20 foot floors, whereas the apartments and hotel floors are more like 10-12 feet, so that'd make sense to me that the floor count was higher but the building was actually shorter.

Re: Legacy Condominiums - 121 12th Ave S (187' - 17 Stories)
So this lines up perfectly with Stone Arch from the 10th Ave Bridge. There's now 1 line to the Guthrie of condos. It's really cool. I can't wait to see MS, UofMn, Red Cross and Padilla to band together to build one tower. Should be something else coming quite soon... Where — in this vacinity? The (...
