Re: Minneapolis Street Design
Kind of doubt people will appreciate their houses burning down when the fire department shows up in a small cute vehicle instead of a honking big truck full of lots of water to spray before a hose line can be established. There's a reason firefighters drive big trucks and it's not because they want ...

Re: Green Line Extension - Southwest LRT
Honesty doesn't outrage me. Cost overruns of that magnitude with taxpayer dollars do. People are acting like this is under the couch cushion and insiide the car ashtray levels of money. If we had an idea what this would cost starting out, maybe we'd still consider it worthwile to do, but we could ha...

Re: Green Line Extension - Southwest LRT
Yeah, at this point there's nothing to do but go forward. But that doesn't mean we don't have every right to be outraged at a $1.5 billion cost overrrun. And more importantly, some assurance it will never happen again if we ever do another light rail project. When's the last time a MnDOT project for...

Re: Green Line Extension - Southwest LRT
Yeah, $1.5 Billion dollars is nothing to be freaked out about. It's not like we're talking real money here, they can probably find under the couch cushions in the lounge at the government center. It's not like it has to come from hard-working taxpayers or anything.

We shouldn't count on any kind of cooperation from BSNF in Hennepin County. Not even running more passenger trains on their freight lines.

No, things aren't looking good for low end sit-down restaraunts nowadays. Although to be fair Apple Valley closed because they lost their lease after Panera wanted to move from a strip mall literally across the parking lot to a freestanding site so they could have a drive-thru.

Re: Eagan, Apple Valley, Burnsville - General Topics
The company I work for, also coincidently in Eagan and also trying to majorly downsize their real estate footprint, is running into capacity issues with their data center so they're starting to outsource components rather than do a major expansion and upgrade.

Might depend how how negotiations go. The U seems to be asking for everything on both campuses back, but might settle for less, maybe just the adult inpatient hospital component with the East Bank inpatient buildings. The West Bank has be modern Children's Hospital, which of course isn't going anywh...

Re: Shakopee - Savage - Prior Lake - Scott County
Theoretically. It's about a mile and a quarter, there's MUPS the whole way and a marked crossing with an RRFB across 16th, although crossing Marystown is four lanes with no marked crosswalk. My Mom and stepfather live in Shakopee, and it's walkable for certain values of walkable. There's MUPs along ...

Here's the article that was linked to back on page 8. The complex has major problems beyond COVID- too much of the wrong kind of retail was spec built and shoppers hate having to park in the ramp as opposed to surface lots.

Sounds like they don't know themselves how many new private rooms are going to be built in the new tower, which affects how many currently shared rooms in existing buildings will be converted to private, and how many can be repurposed or removed. Another factor is that standards of care and patient ...

Re: Minneapolis Population / Density - General Discussion
So, given that a lot of people are living alone or with one other person in a single family detached house, by what policies do you think 500,000 population is doable? Given that so far ADUs and triplexes have been met with yawns from homeowners and developers alike and there's only so much vacant o...

The Best Buy project was so outrageous with the number of people it forced from their homes under threat of eminent domain, and there was that whole Kelo v. New London thing and the resultant state law here in backlash, that I get the sense cities are becoming extremely timid about using it. Even fo...
