Re: Public Transit News / Current Events (MN only)
I'd be curious if the Hawthorne Ramp could be torn down some day to be replaced by development that would help knit this area together a little better. But given that it was only built in 2000, probably with federal grants(?), that might complicate the issue. Lord knows there's no shortage of parkin...

I'd guess not. The area is guided to stay industrial in St. Paul's 2040 plan. With the light industrial market remaining red hot, I'll bet their current facility will be subleased in a heartbeat.

Re: Better Bus Routes - Metro Transit
This comment could go in the aBRT thread or here, but I wonder if going with lettered rapid lines instead of numbers is going to seem like a good idea long-term, once we're in the middle of the alphabet. Instead of A-K (minus I), the first ten aBRT routes could have been labeled Routes 1-10. Obvious...

Re: Northeast and Southeast Minneapolis - General Topics
I considered that, but for a corporation the size of Wells Fargo, would they really hold a vacant property (and absorb the associated liability and holding costs, potentially for years) over the difference between getting $3 million or $5 million for this relatively small property? My gut says they ...

Re: Northeast and Southeast Minneapolis - General Topics
Just got a notice that the Wells Fargo on E Hennepin is closing in August. Anything cooking at that site? Seems like a great location to do something similar to Rafter. There was a story in the MSP Biz Journal last week on Wells Fargo's branch closures, confirming that 425 E. Hennepin closed on Aug...

Re: Downtown Minneapolis Office Market
You're not wrong about the pay disparity between the private and public sectors (and the County seems to pay even less than the City for similar-type jobs, especially towards the lower end of the pay scale), but public employees also have guaranteed pensions and $0 (or very low) monthly healthcare p...

I think you're thinking about this: https://urbanmsp.com/viewtopic.php?t=756 Heh, since we're bringing up proposals from a decade ago that never moved forward, I have to remind everyone of Rampton, proposed to wrap the St. Anthony Main parking ramp next to this site. That interesting project was se...

"At least one day a week" does not seem like a useful measurement, in terms of supporting restaurants and transit service. I'd be more interested to know what the percentage is for "at least two days" and "three days or more". It sounds like I wouldn't like Target's ans...

Since that drawing doesn't include crosswalks, it's hard to tell how the BLRT tracks impact the crosswalk on the east leg of 7th/Olson(6th). I also don't really comprehend how the BLRT tracks would even manage to descend from the elevated junction down to street level in time to be crossing the inte...

Re: Hennepin County Commissioner Districts 1, 5, 6, 7 (2020)
He seems like a good government guy. But it's pretty lame to run for office and serve only 2.5 years of a 4 year term. Totally agree on the special election costs being a sour deal for taxpayers. If there ANY funds left in his campaign account, it should come from there first. Since Hennepin County ...

Re: Green Line Extension - Southwest LRT
I agree it would be nice to run trains even just to Farmers Market Station as soon as that is physically and operationally possible. On the other hand, if we get a new route fully approved for the Blue Line extension by mid-2024, and engineering done by early 2026, it would be nice if they could get...

Re: 200 Central (2019) - 293' / 27 Stories
Apologies for posting this in two places. I commented over in the NE/SE general thread that this area could really use a hotel, given the many wedding venues in the area, lack of any hotels in Dinkytown or NE, etc. After looking at the map for where the ideal hotel location would be... Re: Northeast and Southeast Minneapolis - General Topics
Given the direct connection to the public parking ramp, and its location perfectly splitting the walk between Main and Hennepin, the 200 Central development shoulda/coulda included a hotel component all along. A hotel lobby/restaurant would actually be a great ground floor activation on that site, a...

Re: Northeast and Southeast Minneapolis - General Topics
Just realizing how weird it is that there's not a single hotel on St. Anthony Main. Especially considering the many wedding venues. I guess there's the Nicollet Island Inn, so there's one. Not a single hotel in Dinkytown either. A few in Stadium Village.
