TC Habitat for Humanity - (1954 University Avenue)
Re: TC Habitat for Humanity - (1954 University Avenue)
I just received my new Monitor local news paper and there a bunch of University Ave development updates. The info isn't online yet but here's what it had to say about this project:
--It just mentions that occupants have moved in to the new building.
--It just mentions that occupants have moved in to the new building.

Thanks for the link. The interior spaces are beautiful. I love the way the placement of windows brings in sunlight, especially with the southern exposure in winter.

Yes, and it's rather unattractive. Somehow it manages to compliment the Days Inn across the street.

Agree, the interior is more successful than the outside. But come on now: it's not as bad as The Days Inn.Yes, and it's rather unattractive. Somehow it manages to compliment the Days Inn across the street.

I'm actually pleasantly surprised by the exterior appearance. Early renderings looked very gray and unpleasant. The actual color is much warmer than that... more of a chocolatey bronze. And there is no spray stucco or fake windows (sorry... "spandrel glass") like we were willing to settle for a few short years ago along University.Yes, and it's rather unattractive. Somehow it manages to compliment the Days Inn across the street.

Careful or we might get this thread locked! Here's the exterior pic from the article:Eclipse chocolatey bronze?

I personally like it! but again I like Modern design. At least it's some variety to the architecture everyone claims is so 'the same' these days.

I'm still looking for the hidden pattern in the window fenestration. It cannot be random, architects don't think that way.

Maybe there's a hidden message if you feed the building through a punch card reader.I'm still looking for the hidden pattern in the window fenestration. It cannot be random, architects don't think that way.

Article from the PiPress. I had no idea Sue Haigh was also the local Habitat president, in addition to being Met Council chair.

Piano roll is more likely.Maybe there's a hidden message if you feed the building through a punch card reader.I'm still looking for the hidden pattern in the window fenestration. It cannot be random, architects don't think that way.

I drove by this unexpectedly over the weekend and was not impressed by the exterior. It didn't strike me as warm as the photo makes it out to be. My first reaction was, "that looks like something built during '60's urban renewal," with all of the negativity that implies.

That DOES look like a piano roll on its side.

I like this building. The likes and dislikes of this forum are so random. People seem to hate this thing and Murals in Lynlake, and love Brunsfield Place, yet all three are similar in style.
Re: TC Habitat for Humanity - (1954 University Avenue)
Murals wasn't executed nearly as well as the other two.

Re: TC Habitat for Humanity - (1954 University Avenue)
This building now has three shattered windows on the first floor. Likely due to manufacturer defects or improper installation I'd guess. It's the interior panes of the double pane windows. I can't recall seeing this many windows go at once in a project though I know it does happen, especially at the beginning of heating season.

This is pretty nice (for modern tastes). Big difference between H for H/Brunsfield and Murals is metal panel being used on H for H/Brunsfield is 10x better material than what was used on Murals (in addition to the poor execution of Murals).Murals wasn't executed nearly as well as the other two.
