Filling in the space over here makes the eastern part of campus feel a lot different.

Agreed. I love the curved glass feature mixed with the brick columns that sit in front of the glass around the rest of that side. This looks good.
Re: University Recreation & Wellness Center Expansion
I was through here this weekend, and it's astonishing how different this area feels with the Rec Center expansion and Physics Nanotech infill.

This has looked done-ish for a while. Probably takes a while to carry all the elliptical machines in.

Apparently we are one of the cheapest Big Ten schools for out-of-state students, but one of the most expensive when it comes to in-state tuition rates. The Strib just recently released an article discussing the tuition rates:A bundle of what? Hardly.Gotta love in-state tuition........saves a bundle!

I come from a family with a lower-middle income, so I managed to get a good amount of financial aid and I also transferred from MN State-Mankato (I was lazy in high school), so the U of M is still fairly cheap for me since I can live at my parent's house and commute to Minneapolis. Many of my friends who come from middle-income households though are not as lucky and are probably stuck with private loans for years sadly, but the ones who attend the U are probably going to end up with not as much loans as my friends at the more expensive private colleges. But anyways getting back on topic, it's quite nice to see the increased density on the East Bank and the expansion appears to have turned out really nice as I really love brick structures. It's awesome to see the area grow and evolve throughout my undergraduate years there.

This is a change made in the past five years. The U decided they wanted to recruit more out-of-state students, so they lowered their tuition rate drastically. It used to be about $10,000 higher.

Re: University Recreation & Wellness Center Expansion
So the Freshii that eventually opened in the Rec Center but was rarely open and even more rarely frequented is out. A sign hanging in the front indicates it will be replaced with a French Meadow. This fills me with great glee, since after a hard workout I'd much rather have a croissant than a spinach smoothie. Since presumably it's being run by Aramark and not directly by French Meadow, I just hope it's like the French Meadow in MSP airport and not like the terrible one in MKE.
