Re: North Loop Green - Hines - 350 N 5th St(?) - 36 stories / ~400'(?)
-Looks like they will be removing much of the fence/railing along the 5th St viaduct. Sweet!
-Can they really attach things (buildings, walkway/plaza structures, etc.) directly to the 5th St bridge here? Don't bridges flex/expand/contract/etc.? What if the building (or 5th St) settles or shifts by like an inch? Or am I overthinking this and it's actually totally fine to attach whatever to this 10-year old bridge?
-with the bridge being an arc (not flat), I bet it’s not going to be as truly seamless as shown here

Re: North Loop Green - Hines - 350 N 5th St(?) - 36 stories / ~400'(?)
Isn’t that basically what all construction in Chicago’s Loop is? What with every street elevated.
Re: North Loop Green - Hines - 350 N 5th St(?) - 36 stories / ~400'(?)
Shouldn't the private street that serves T3 and Dock Street (which presumably should be called Dock Street) become a real street that eventually elevates and reconnects with 5th Street? T3 currently has a Washington Avenue address, which seems... dumb.

The second rendering makes it look like a big sibling and a little sibling, gazing at the skyline, with an arm around the little one. If this gets built, that's how I'll always view it. Minnie with an arm around Paul

It will definitely be a big change to views of the skyline from a distance as it is the first big leap past Hennepin.
Re: North Loop Green - Hines - 350 N 5th St(?) - 36 stories / ~400'(?)
I was an intern at Metro Transit in '13 and the Ford Center was the only building between where I got off the bus at the 5th Street garage and walked to Heywood that still exists.
Crazy.
Prefer this new version of 5th haha

Okay, this is not a great work of architecture, but it is not a bad work either. The “sky deck” or super skyway is an interesting feature that will create some great views for people in the building and the pedestrian oriented green area and walkways are an appealing addition to the neighborhood.

I’m interested in how public the access will be from the Northstar and the trail through this site if at all?
Re: North Loop Green - Hines - 350 N 5th St(?) - 36 stories / ~400'(?)
The view from the North Loop posted on the previous page seems to show a prominent stair rising from the track level up to the 5th Street plaza elevation.I’m interested in how public the access will be from the Northstar and the trail through this site if at all?

When US Bank Stadium was announced in 13/14, I thought at the time we would see the skyline start to shift south and east. That's happened to an extent, but the pull of the North Loop seems to continue to give Downtown West the strongest momentum. It will definitely be a big change to views of the skyline from a distance as it is the first big leap past Hennepin.
It's great to see something that's been on the back burner for 5 or so years take a step forward. As for the vehicle access, I don't think we can expect them to put it anywhere but off 5th St. Hopefully the generous plaza/auto court for the office can be done in a way that calms traffic on entry.

I'm sure they'll end up putting an auto court and/or garage entrance on 5th, but why can we not expect them to put it elsewhere? There's already a curb cut to the parking lot on which they're building this on 3rd. It's a one way, yes, but that's no more inconvenient than the many parking garages downtown on one-way streets. Just seems like a waste to use space for cars literally feet away from a major transit hub.

It would make more sense to me to put the auto parking entrance off third, but they would have to make that part of third a 2 way street from 5th to the parking entrance. I assume that most/all of the building bulk that is below the 5th street road-level will be for dedicated car storage anyway. When US Bank Stadium was announced in 13/14, I thought at the time we would see the skyline start to shift south and east. A building this big will generate a lot of pick-up / drop-off / taxi / uber etc. There's no way that 5th Street, in it's current configuration, could handle that. So an auto court of some type probably makes sense. I'd guess that general access to the parking decks will be from Dock Street at the trench level, but you'd probably still have some sort of a valet only or visitor parking accessible from 5th.

There are additional photos in the MSP Biz Journal article:

In the third photo it looks like there may be a public garage (tho the letters are cut off) next to or maybe attached to the restaurant. I can't really tell for sure.

Seeing more of those and being able to zoom in greater detail, they are clearly putting public open (“green?”) space under and even between the 3rd and 4th viaducts.
They got trees popping up between the viaducts. And grass under them.
Better than parking I guess!

This would be quite visible from Target Field in left field and would ad to the skyline from that view. If you had an apartment at the top it would be great but I am not sure you are close enough to see the action. Clearly you would be caught up in the sights and sounds of the game. I hope this comes to fruition.

Maybe each Apartment would have a magnified window or binocolulars like they used to have on the Stone Arch Bridge. Also looking at the new photos makes me really want the viaduct gone. This would be quite visible from Target Field in left field and would ad to the skyline from that view. The added details in the proposal and the images makes this one of the more innovative projects to be put forward lately. The Guthrie Ramp liner is in the same category. The drawings for North Loop Green are promising. Making use of the space under the viaducts is very clever.
