Downtown Minneapolis Restaurant News
Re: Downtown Restaurant News
Never quite sure whether Loring is DT or not, but walking by the Old Joe's Garage the other day I see they are still a long ways from getting this place back in business. Looks like a new side wall and roof are complete, with a new hut of some sort for the expanded upstairs patio. Does anyone know who is going in there or if the owner is now just trying to get the building back up to par so he can pass inspections and get it leased again. Thought Joe's did good business when they were open?

Scratch Bar & Grill to open near Target Field on 3rd Ave N: http://www.journalmpls.com/news-feed/op ... -and-grill
Re: Downtown Restaurant News
This could be a huge win for downtown: a (presumably) top-flight Italian restaurant and the re-opening of the Forum space.

Re: Downtown Restaurant News
Totally. Absolutely nothing needs to be done outside do some sort of crazy awesome modern art deco facade there!
Re: Downtown Restaurant News
Exciting this will reopen. I hope the new owners of City Center do something to upgrade the exterior. The Forum exterior façade would be the perfect place to start!
Re: Downtown Restaurant News
The Forum's facade was carefully catalogued and stored when the interior was dismantled, but the lawsuits didn't require that it be re-installed in City Center, and the ownership didn't. It was later destroyed in a warehouse fire.

Strib says “Apparently the guy who had been storing it stopped getting a check, and so he decided to dump it into a landfill. Can you believe that?”

I hate everything.Strib says “Apparently the guy who had been storing it stopped getting a check, and so he decided to dump it into a landfill. Can you believe that?”
Seriously, why would you not at least sell it to an architectural salvage company?
Re: Downtown Restaurant News
this is really exciting news. twin cities is blessed to have acclaimed restaurateurs such as this group.
i've personally never been inside this space but it looks amazing.

Re: Downtown Restaurant News
If they do an even passable job at this, they should do really well. A decent Vietnamese place downtown seems like an absolute no brainer.

Saw a sign for http://www.velleedeli.com/ in the old Taco Bell skyway location. Currently under construction. Their twitter feed says they were hoping to be up before Xmas but they are delayed.

Restaurant space hard to come by:
Want space for a restaurant? There’ll be a bit of a wait
“Space is very tight,” said Andrea Christenson, a vice president with Cassidy Turley in Minneapolis. “Everybody wants second-generation restaurant space if they can get it, but there’s lots of competition from [national chains].

Solera has closed: http://www.startribune.com/lifestyle/ta ... 15101.html
Hopefully it doesn't stay vacant long. Hennepin is still a rough go for restaurants, despite some successes like Seven and the two places in CityCenter.

Re: Downtown Restaurant News
Seeing those last two posts next to each other is odd. Is there not a ton of vacant restaurant space?

Re: Downtown Restaurant News
I was just wondering today why Chevy's space has been vacant for so long.
Re: Downtown Restaurant News
My guess is the owner wants to have the tenant that is moving in to pay for any updates that need to be done there. After this long I'm sure that a lot of things will need replacing and made more efficient. Right now no one is going to gamble on this location as a win/win to invest or lose their own money in updating.I was just wondering today why Chevy's space has been vacant for so long.
Solera was a concept that is now old and is not that special with all the newer restaurants having the small plate concept as well. The space is a gem as far as location, location. They have a great event space as well as a decent sized dining area. Time for something new to enliven the place and get a new interior upgrade. It should not be vacant very long.

Whatever happens with the Solera space, it better do rooftop movies.
