Minneapolis City Planning Commission (meetings, agenda items, members, etc.)
Minneapolis City Planning Commission (meetings, agenda items, members, etc.)
Does anyone have more information on these meetings?
-When and where are the held.
-Are they open to the public.
-Is there where new projects are made public.
-What all do they decide at them.
I just think it would be really fun to sit in on one of these meetings to get a better grasp of the process.
Thanks for any help!

Re: MPLS Planning Commission meetings
The Planning Commission meets twice per month, on Mondays at 4:30pm at City Hall. The meetings are open to the public and anyone can stand up and speak for or against anything on the agenda.
In the alternating weeks between PC meetings, they meet as the "Committee of the Whole" or CoW, which is more of a study session for Planning Commission members to meet with staff and the developer/applicant to familiarize themselves with the project and discuss major issues before the public hearing. No votes or public comments are taken at CoW meetings.
Meetings of all appointed boards and City Council committees are posted here: https://lims.minneapolismn.gov/Boards/Meetings
That is where many of us urbanMSP'ers get our information, site plans, etc. Staff reports and site plans are posted a few days in advance of the meetings. More general information about the Planning Commission can be found here: http://www.minneapolismn.gov/PlanningCo ... /index.htm
I'll further add that decisions of the Planning Commission can be appealed within 10 days. The appeal goes to the City Council's Zoning & Planning Committee, which is currently chaired by Gary Schiff. The Z&P Committee makes the final decision on the matter (well technically the full council votes too, but it would be unusual for those votes to come out with a different result)

Sounds like time for an UrbanMSP meetup.
Re: MPLS Planning Commission meetings
I think it would be wise for a number of people show up the 24th... now to see if I can get my boss to let me off early... Maybe I feel sick that day...

Re: MPLS Planning Commission meetings
I'd like to go. Hopefully they get to the Opus Dinkytown (last agenda item) before I have to leave at 6:30. Usually the meetings are quite short, less than an hour, but with two big apartment projects up for discussion, it could go a while longer.

Re: MPLS Planning Commission meetings
I'll also be ducking out early to make the meeting.
Here's the agenda:
http://www.minneapolismn.gov/meetings/p ... S1P-110078
They allow public comments during this, right? Hopefully we can drown out SaveDinkytown, or least provide a reasoned argument. Also, hopefully people more articulate than me will have something to say.
Of course the ultimate victory would be getting the SaveDinkytown people to support the development. As Gul Dukat says, "A true victory is to make your enemy see they were wrong to oppose you in the first place."

Re: MPLS Planning Commission meetings
It's 5th on the Agenda. The first three are pretty simple, but the 4th is the 15th Ave housing that requires assembling about 1000 different properties and they're requesting quite a few variances. The planners are recommending approval on all of them, but I'm guessing it will take a while for staff to just present it all. You should be fine.

Just got off work. Would I miss the Dinkytown Opus one if I show up around 530?
