I was sad that we're not getting a Hy-Vee in Bloomington. I've been fed up issues with Wal-Mart's online pickup to the point I've considered the idea of driving all the way to the Hy-Vee in Eagan or Savage. But their excuse that they suddenly couldn't work a lease agreement with Kraus Anderson always seemed kind of strange to me.

I also think the idea of a Target is believable. A lot of city residents don't want big boxes in the city, and there's not really room for big boxes anyway, so I get they idea the ones on the edges like the Richfield Target get slammed with plenty of people from the city driving there so they can shop at a big box Target or Home Depot rather than pay extremely high prices at cute local stores. Would be interesting to see what percentage of shoppers are from Richfield and what percentage are from Minneapolis. This also explains why Hy-Vee was so eager to build another store in Robbinsdale only a couple of miles from another one.

Could it maybe be a Walmart? The one in Bloomington is only 80,000 square feet and being the only one near south Minneapolis / Richfield / East Bloomington is absolutely crushed with people. There is that one in Burnsville, but it's farther from most of Richfield and South Minneapolis and even a lot of people from Bloomington don't think to cross the river. After a flirtation with much larger stores like the one in Shakopee, 100k square feet is about average for new builds.
