Re: Freight Rail News and Happenings
One of the issues here is that Amtrak is such a tiny organization, relatively speaking -- 31.7 million passengers last year compared to 4.7 billion passengers on Deutsche Bahn (Germany's national rail network), for instance. A small number of heritage equipment owners will cause a lot more headache...

Re: Public Transit News and Current Happenings
Does anybody have a spitball take as to what it would cost to make Metro Transit free? Assuming, I suppose, that routes could stay at current levels, which almost certainly isn't true as demand would increase. Based on Metro Transit's 2017 Facts , 25 percent of revenue is derived from fares. This w...

Re: Southwest LRT (Green Line Extension)
Is it, uh, too late to... 1. Eliminate 21st St Station 2. Single track the LRT between West Lake and Penn Ave 3. Not do the shallow tunnel, but instead run a single track of LRT next to a single track of freight 4. Save piles and piles of money? Ultimately adding a second track at later date comes ...

Re: Public Transit News and Current Happenings
Can you buy them with cash from a bus operator as well? I honestly don't remember, though I know you could buy a 24-hour pass (at least historically) from a bus operator. (The A Line platforms do sell day passes.) I really wish that the GoTo cards would automatically cap at the price of a day pass ...

Looks like they’re currently disassembling the tower crane. Must have only needed it for forming the service level.

Re: Type II LRVs - Siemens S70
Too bad they don't have a video of the "C" section inside, which I think is the only difference between II and IIa vehicles. What is different? I don't believe anything. These were order on options from the Central Corridor order. The Type IIIs on order for Southwest and Bottineau have be...

Southwest LRT (Green Line Extension)
http://www.startribune.com/gop-lawmakers-seeking-to-divert-southwest-light-rail-money-to-road-bridge-projects/414281213/ It looks like SWLRT could be dead if some suburban and rural lawmakers get their way.
