Re: Central Corridor LRT
I don't see any reason that the track work needs to be completely finished this year for them to start testing by sometime next year. They won't be able to run the trains without installing catenary, so they can work on both next year. As long as they finish up by next fall, they should be able to d...

Re: Central Corridor LRT
I noticed today that the eastbound Green Line track has been connected to the existing Hiawatha track at the junction between the lines, while the westbound track still stops short. I am assuming they made the connection last weekend while the line was closed north of Franklin. I consider that to be...

Re: Minneapolis Streetcar System
Can't we call this a tram line or something other than a streetcar? It won't actually be in a street, after all. Would the line have to be single tracked under virtually all bridges, or just some of them? Would it need to be single tracked at stations as well? Obviously there would be passing tracks...

Re: The Interchange (At Target Field)
If you are talking about the tower with the M on it, that is just decorative, and will likely be replaced with the circle T logo of Metro Transit and the new Metro branding. As has been mentioned before, this is just the first phase of the Interchange. It will allow both the Blue and Green Lines to ...

Re: Central Corridor LRT
So you can save 9 to 12 minutes by going on the 94. But at that point, you basically need to have buses running every 15 or 20 minutes to justify them. Since running along the Interstate is usually so fast, it seems like you'd really only need 4 or 5 buses to maintain a 15-minute schedule. I don't ...

Re: Central Corridor LRT
While I know that folks here have been disappointed with end-to-end travel times for the Green Line, I think its important to remember that transit lines are not just geared to optimize travel times for all riders from terminus to terminus. As a matter of fact, I'm willing to bet that most riders w...

Re: Central Corridor LRT
Anyone know what happened to the 4th street enterance onto N 35W went to?? Did it not get funded? That is a different project that is still happening, just not shown on these project maps. When I went through the area today, it looked as though they had a temporary asphalt curb along 4th St. where ...

I think the old forum had a "Minneapolis Skyway System" thread, perhaps we should start one here?

Re: Xcel Energy HQ
Aside from how ugly and run down it is, one of my major annoyances about some parking ramps is in view in that google aerial. I hate it as a pedestrian when the car ramp juts out into the sidewalk, forcing pedestrians to go under and around the ramp into a poorly lit walkway. Nice to see that aspect...

Re: The Interchange (At Target Field)
Nice to know it will move forward. I too think that this will make for an impressive station, certainly a step up from what is there now. Of course they will have to change the "Circle M" Metro logos to the final "Circle T" branding that was decided on. I too was going to post th...

Re: Hiawatha Line (Blue Line)
They will have to be finished fairly soon, the first of the new Siemens LRVs will begin to arrive in August. I am not sure what the storage capacity for the OMF was before the expansion, but I am sure it would be full soon if not for the expansion. I wouldn't imagine the St. Paul facility would be r...

Re: Nicollet Mall
Rerouting buses off Nicollet Mall also results in some circuitous routings, which adds to travel time and cost, and often walking distance. Plus, to some it may seem like removing buses is a way of pushing "those people" who ride buses from Nicollet Mall to the periphery.
