Don't forget Rochester and Duluth are also first-class.Huh. The language was changed at some point to specify cities of the first class, so only Minneapolis and St. Paul are immune to MERA lawsuits. The suburbs could all still be sued, should anyone wish to.

Re: Interstate 94
If you read the report, there is a "restoration" option as well, which is essentially undoing what was done. Did you read the report? Don't try to motte and bailey this. Yes, there's a throwaway in the report, but 99.9% of the messaging and letters are about "the boulevard option.&qu...

Re: Interstate 94
A big surface highway carrying any considerable volume of traffic is nothing at all like what was there before the freeway. Boulevard advocates keep saying that, but people should be very clear that the boulevard is a third, wholly different thing from either the current freeway or the old low-traff...

Re: Public Transit News / Current Events (MN only)
Not much potential to accelerate G Line since its timeline is set by Rice and Robert re-dos. H Line maybe, though the overlap of Purple Line may be complicating.

Re: Discontinued Bus Routes
I wince every time I drive down St. Clair Avenue and see those signs. I know it was probably close to the worst-performing urban bus route in the system, but it's a long walk to Grand or Randolph...

Re: Northern Lights Express
Slow progress on the TCMC second train has been an impediment for NLX. Ramsey County finalized the Union Depot lease just this week, so service on that should begin (fingers crossed) in a couple months.

Remember when this project was sold by telling the city they would also build affordable housing?

Has anyone here ever actually tried taking Route 54 on Glumack Rd to or from Terminal 1 during Uber/Lyft drop off peak hours? If you had, you would understand the problem with buses on this corridor.

Re: Riverview Corridor Streetcar
It's truly hilarious to see people say "apply the lessons of the Blue Line Extension" and then suggest that this line should be diverted to a privately owned rail corridor far away from the destinations transit riders actually want to get to. The money for this line is coming from Ramsey C...

Re: Purple Line BRT (Rush Line Corridor)
Not to mention that the major Highway 36 interchanges are located in the most wind-swept suburban hellscapes imaginable. Imagine a vertical transfer from a 36 BRT to the A Line in the middle of a cloverleaf. Who's going to take an infrequent bus 20 minutes into the suburbs and wait next to a freeway...

Re: HERC - Hennepin Energy Recovery Center
I somehow think converting HERC to a fossil fuel plant downtown would not be more politically feasible than shutting it down lmao. There's no world where people currently upset with HERC would just go "oh okay, it's a fossil fuel plant now, that's better." HERC is on the way out. It's not...

Re: HERC - Hennepin Energy Recovery Center
Look, there is zero chance that HERC moves and gets redeveloped even if the waste to energy use disappears. The district heating capacity is needed to keep downtown Minneapolis running and there is not a lot of redundancy built into the system. You would need to have the replacement plant up and run...
