Re: Nicollet Ave / Eat Street - Whittier, Stevens, Loring Park
I haven't been in there since the remodeling wrapped, but the building footprint didn't change, so the dining room is still there, right? They're just not using it? (Which they have been doing since Covid hit, I'm pretty certain.) No, when you walk into the lobby there are two ordering kiosks, a mo...

Weren't trees a big focus of the Nicollet Mall redo? How are those trees doing? It also seems that by the time trees mature there is some sort of construction project which removes them.

Re: Suburban Malls and Associated Retail News
I poked around on some Hyvee related forums and staff are basically saying that they used COVID money to expand and then got caught between higher-end grocers and lower-end grocers. So they started cutting their staff and left themselves unable to compete with higher-end grocers for service and lowe...

Re: Suburban Malls and Associated Retail News
Wal-Mart also closed the University Ave store not terribly long ago. I wonder how the Robbinsdale Hyvee is doing? Maybe that will be the next store to close. Their prices are higher than the nearby Cub. I have it on good authority that Robbinsdale Hy-Vee is ailing, in part due to theft. There has b...

I've been really looking forward to this project. Was it evitable that they would miss these deadlines/expiration dates? Are there any ways to speed things up?

Re: Xcel Energy Center
Hmm... multiple signals that they're interested in something. MinnPost: Minnesota Wild taps former state budget director as lobbyist. Is a public ask for Xcel Energy Center renovations next? I wouldn't mind the Wolve's going in on something with the Wild if it meant large development in Downtown St...

Re: New Third Precinct Station
I’d like to see smaller, more public, sub-stations being considered. After the consent decrees we know we have a serious cultural problem within the PD. Why repeat the model of large precinct buildings that effectively create a fortress within the neighborhood? Dr. Cedric Alexander stated that the ...

Re: Local politics, shenanigans
Some personal news--I'm so excited to announce that I've accepted a position as the city administrator of East Bethel. Are you Mayor? Lewis's neighbor on the other side of his home, opposite the neighbor they gave his Council seat to? I grew up on the Board of East Bethel and Oak Grove. Politics ar...

Re: Blue Line Extension - Bottineau LRT
I'm starting to hope this whole Blue Line extension project collapses based on the new, proposed route. The route past Robinsdale down the middle of a 6-lane stroad is awful, and now the North Minneapolis routing is looking pretty bad. I fear the route along 10th and 21st Avenues will make access f...

On the riverfront trail breaking through to the north past the rail bridge. https://mplsparksfoundation.org/building-new-connections/ That is huge! Very important connection between northside and the river Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk It's going to be primarily used by the run group at Mill C...

Re: Bicycle Infrastructure
If anyone else has bikes around Edina regularly and noticed how the city likes to pave their on street bikes lanes concrete or some other material besides asphalt (not sure if anywhere else in the metro does this), am I crazy for finding them more annoying then normal painted lanes? I'm sure most p...

Re: Interstate 94
With over 100,000 cars on any given segment and thousands of semi-trucks, the boulevard option would probably be more like an NYC arterial than a parkway. I'm curious to see what the traffic modeling looks like but I'd expect lots of traffic to move to east-west streets like Lake/Marshall, Franklin...

Re: Interstate 94
My thoughts on each option: At-Grade A: Looks good, though there would need to be a lot of thought put into making sure traffic goes a safe speed for pedestrians crossing at intersections. If they choose this option I hope BRT would get signal preemption (a step above signal priority). At-Grade B: ...

173,254 tons of CO2, 404 tons of nitrous oxide, and 21 tons of PM2.5 in 2019. I don't know. I wouldn't like to live next to it. I guess if the people who put a concerted effort into getting this result also don't want to live nearby a garbage burner, I'm not going to "well actually" about...

It's a huge project, I don't know what you all expect? A huge reason for the delays is the tunnel which is costing a ton and will primarily benefit cyclists. As a cyclist and taxpayer I wish they didn't do the tunnel at all, but what is done is done. I think a lot of the frustration is due to the c...

Re: MSP to Rochester High Speed Rail
STP has the longest runway of the regional reliever airports. I'm no airport expert, but it certainly seems as if Anoka-Blaine has enough land to extend a runway to match or exceed DtSP's runway length. I agree, glancing at Google Maps the Blaine Airport has way more room. It has good interstate ac...

Re: MSP to Rochester High Speed Rail
I don't know what their financial models say, but they are projecting 6 million riders over a 240 mile route in FL. If you take the highways it 408 miles and the fares between MSP and CHI. Additionally there are only 580,000 airline passengers between the two. Economics simply aren't as strong here ...
