Hopefully that means St. Paul is really taking the lead on this, too. We're stadiumed out on the other side of the river.
Re: Major League Soccer Stadium in Minnesota
Who's we? Just the loudest complainers? I'll be a little disappointed for sure if it's not in Minneapolis, though if midway does really get that 25 acre redevelopment, that's really awesome as well.

Meanwhile, in Orano 40 acres of land is being considered for development into 11 3-acre lots.....which somehow made headlines in the Strib. Isn't it incredible how inefficient development CAN be? Makes me nauseous, but to each their own I guess.

Yes, it's also about time we stop making important retailers such as Target and Cub Foods property tax free! They encourage economic development within the area and provide such a needed asset to the local community! Without their investment our communities would not get as much housing development! It seems like the only fair thing to do.
Re: Major League Soccer Stadium in Minnesota
I for see 10 pages of rebuttal and snark coming up on that note.
Re: Major League Soccer Stadium in Minnesota
That's a pretty big throw-down from the county. Not just supporting the project but opening up the idea of using the Target Field tax, too.
Re: Major League Soccer Stadium in Minnesota
Mind you that would be used to fund the improvements around the stadium, not the stadium itself. My understanding these funds could already be used for this purpose in the area around Target Field. That's a pretty big throw-down from the county. Re: Major League Soccer Stadium in Minnesota
I wonder how much we're talking about spending on infrastructure improvements. At a previous meeting of this 2020 group McLaughlin had mentioned tearing down the 4th street viaducts which I assume wouldn't be cheap.

If it'll get those viaducts removed, build baby build!
(but I'd rather see it in St Paul)

Re: Major League Soccer Stadium in Minnesota
A friend of mine was facilitating a community conversation tonight about the redevelopment of the Snelling/University (Midway Center/Bus Barn) site and potential home of a new MLS Soccer Stadium for the Union Park District Council.
He posted that he will likely be seen/heard/read on KSTP, KARE, MPR & Pioneer Press... It sounds like there was a lot of media coverage. Could that mean that this site is gaining steam?

Eric did a great job. (I ran the transportation/parking discussion groups)
As for gaining steam...I don't know. We had that meeting last night because the district council desperately wants to get some sort of neighborhood feedback before it's too late. The mayor's office hasn't told us a single thing. We only know when something happens because it's in the Strib. The media was there, I think, because the mayor was also out at the site with the MLS commissioner (though that was a totally separate event) and our conversation rounded out their narratives. I'd be hesitant to say that it means much more than that.

Two people I know in St. Paul were fully expecting there to be an announcement last night regarding a deal from the city, FWIW.

Re: Major League Soccer Stadium in Minnesota
At this point is the consensus it's only a matter WHERE and not IF United get a stadium deal done? Because between Peter McLaughlin breathing new life into the Farmer Markets site and Chris Coleman doing everything he can to get United to St. Paul it sure seems that way to me.
Re: Major League Soccer Stadium in Minnesota
What is it worth? I ask in seriousness, because we have no idea who you are referring to and obviously there was no announcement, so this post is really random. Two people I know in St. Paul were fully expecting there to be an announcement last night regarding a deal from the city, FWIW.
Re: Major League Soccer Stadium in Minnesota
Somehow, we missed this article when it came out.
Hennepin County wants to go exclusive with MN United.

Well. http://www.twincities.com/sports/ci_286 ... t-not-that
After a few cursory coffees with St. Paul, Minnesota United FC is back together with Minneapolis, trading dreamy glances and long phone calls.
Re: Major League Soccer Stadium in Minnesota
Just to be sure, that's a column, not a news story, and the quoted sentence isn't intended to colorfully convey an assumption rather than a proven fact.
Though it's probably a safe assumption that the team would prefer the farmers' market site over Midway if all things are equal.
